Campaign - Batrep.

No. 1 Bear

Well simon didn't like this. Early EA vs Centauri Blockade run War Level.

He was the runner and decided to feild his adira using Ubarachs model. I thought fine as this was our campaigns second turn and the first battle of it. I decided to take everything i could loads of hyperion missile and commands exclusively. 2 nova. 4 olympus half of which were gunships. A shedload of tethys and a couple of orestes.

Things started fine for him. APTE gettin acorss the table fast. I then open fire with my missiles and get something like 8 crits reducing him to speed 1. Then he suffers no damage control. No way he could win now.

My ships all closed in for the kill. The movemet phase consisted of the terms i move the tethys your turn. Then the phrase turn to boresight said repeatadley. SHooting from the adira was poor and not very well placed in my opinion. The things he should have shot where the missile hyperions as they were critting him to death.

As for crits half the dice rolled today i came up with a 6. He had no traits left at the end. About 13 crits and was getting destroyed by large ammounts of hyperions and orestes.

Aftermath was pretty sweet. All my ships got refits for just being their. The tethys all got duties as i was hoping fo the you get a new ship and i did. The adira is very powerful but i was just lucky.

Howerver one thing i have learnt today is that the games so much better in giant scale games. Squadrons of hyperions are so much fun. Shame i couldn't find the counters for the sggitariuses the way i was rolling he would have been dead so much quicker.

The centauri got 1 rutarian flight ut of that game. So thats a fighter flight costing 50RR!

well blockade run you need to use fast ships. so some demos or vorchans or maybe liatis would have been a much better choice for him. APTE 1st turn and close blast doors for the next 2 which for 49 inches will get you across the board.

See thats the thing he knew he should have used fast ships. Such as dargans and demoses but did not. He i believe thought he could wade through my line of Hyperions.

Yeah, he had the wrong ship for the job. Did he at least try to run down the side?

We had a battle that was very similar in which a Shadow Omega (1st ed) tried to get a kill in on the way through a league fleet, turned out bad for the Clarkist fleet as everything was lost.

even at all power to engines it would take an adira 7 turns to exit the opposite side. and if its not doing that apart from 1st turn then it can take 10 turns or more depending on crits. its a nice ship to try it with but at that size game and the opponent having 5 pts to stop it then theres more than enough firepower to stop the ship.
only armageddon ship i would try it with is the victory but then that can do it in 3 turns.

The thing is he didn't really have much choice as his fleet selction was very slow. Oh well Locotus will love this discussion about how he should have chosen a better fleet.

Naw, sometimes you have no choice. The Clarkist didn't have a choice, he had too few ships left. Aside from maybe choosing not to field his whole force.

It's unfortunate, but - especially against the fleet there - kind of doomed.

If you have only one ship versus.....hmm.......let's say

2 orestes
2 Novas 2 Hyperion Commands
2 Olympus 2 Olympus Gunships
4 Missile Hyperions
Assorted skirmish ships

You've probably beaten it with just that - with the number of initiative sinks it can't avoid the obscene amount of laser fire (44 dice!) it'll take every turn, can't afford to slow and manouvre.....put simply, the One Big Ship (TM) is target practice in most scenarios. Look up the 1st edition game with the Lordship Ancient versus an EA fleet for a similar outcome - and that was equal points and a straight fight.

If your line had been skirmish ships - i.e. stuff without heavy lasers - he might have made it. Against proper gunships - not a chance. GEG 3 won't stop a laser shot and hull 6 doesn't help. Having 120 hit points in the tank is good, but not good enough because it's the criticals that kill you.

Usually your just trying to avoid the majority of the blockade fleet, a faster ship, even a big one can make. The downfall here is speed, as it almost always is in Blockade run. There are plenty of skirmish ships out there with good long range weapons, even beams.

Blockade just puts you a such a big disadvantage large or small is irrelevant. If your there long enough for him to get his fleet all into the fight, your done.

yep, I am just waiting to see how bad my raid level blockade run will go. I am the defender and am playing brakiri against EA(Crusase Era) in the end turns of our 1st ed campaign.
