Breakaway Hull example in Highguard

PsiTraveller

Cosmic Mongoose
Page 9 of Highguard has breakaway hull as an option. You can make a ship that can split apart. The example used is a 1000 ton ship that splits into 2 pieces, one 400 and one piece 600 tons.

"While the sections are together, drives, power plants and weapons can all be combined when calculating performance."

The example is 400 tons with 20 tons of M-Drive and the 600 ton section has 66 tons of M-Drive.

"You install 20 tons of manoeuvre drive in the 400 ton section which gives it a Thrust of 2, while the 600 ton section has 66 tons of manoeuvre drive giving it Thrust 4. When combined, this is 86 tons of manoeuvre drive giving the 1,000 ton vessel Thrust 3. "

Ummm, not by my calculations, unless I am really missing something.
20 tons of M-Drive in a 400 ton ship is 5% of the ship, which would be a Thrust 5 according to the chart on page 11.
66 tons of M-Drive is 11 percent for TL 17 Thrust 11, which would max at Thrust 9 for Tl 13 on the chart

Combined the 86 tons of M-Drive would give 8.6% of ship for a Thrust 8.

Am I missing something?

Oh and one last math check, the 2 percent connector rate would mean 20 tons worth 40 Million credits to have the ships be breakaway (pg 9).

Yup, the original version of the manoeuvre drives which required a higher percentage.

The example was rewritten to reflect this, I guess the updated one never made it in.
