Brakiri Tactis?

I played in a 5 points Raid tournament this weekend. And, to keep it short, was annihilated in every single battle. I was playing against Drakh, Pak'ma'ra and Shadows and the overall result was that I destoyed 3 ships in the whole tournament. Drakh lost nothing, shadows one scout and paks 2 warbirds while I was wiped out every time. Granted, I had some very bad dice rolls, mainly 3 was the average roll with a good tendency to 2, but I seemed to me that the ships were not very well. I'm not a great tounament player and mostly play fun games and expected quite a beating, but not something like what happened.

I fielded:

1x Kaliva Lance Cruiser
2x Halik
2x Brikorta light carrier

So, are there any Brakiri players out there who could give some advice about a playable Brakiri fleet?

Thx! 8)

Well, part of the problem was your fleet selection. The Halik, while it is a cool model, is really a substandard hull. The Kaliva, while it is a good ship, really needs to be fielded in pairs, especially if your opponent has interceptors.

What I would consider for a fleet choice is something like this

Kabrokta
5 Brikorta
Shakara Scout

If you are going to use a single Kaliva in your fleet, then I would suggest going this route

kaliva
5 Ikorta
1 Shakara

This will give you enough long distance firepower to break through interceptors to make the lances on the Kaliva work.

I probably would have fielded Ikortas instead of Brikortas. Ikortas have that huge troop rating and Drakh and Pak are not good against troops. It wouldn't have helped against the Shadows, but it could definately change the scope of things if you could get close to a stopped ship.

The sad thing about this is, that what I fielded is essentially what I could get as miniatures. The Shakara and Kabrotka aren't presently available at all and I got the last two Brikortas.

The Brikorta and the Ikorta are the same model.

Brakiri aren't the best fleet for tourneys, I finished last in my tourney as Brakiri, but then I normally finish in the middle. but the Brakiri are a little wobbly for sure.
The halik has little purpose in it's current guise, it's a weaker hull, not much damage, and no interceptors, just don't use it, no matter how nice the model is! the Ikorta's/Brikortas, with a Shakara thrown in are your best options, you can field ten ships, perhaps as many, or more fighters, whislt having fairly sturdy ships, somedecent weaponry, and a scout.
with the advent of 2nd ed, the Haltona may become a more potent weapon, and could be worth taking. Big ships are nice for sure, but they become easy targets for most oponents. Again though, the 2nd ed avioki will have people running , an 8 dice beam! (ok only once every two rounds) but it's a scary thought flying into it!

I'm hoping that the Avioki will become a worthwhile ship choice in 2e, as I'm sure someone has said that this is likely (but don't know where).

The Kabrokta is an excellent brawler/knife fighter. While initiative might be a problem, two of them will throw a lot of fire into the enemy.

well they insisted that the most iconic ships will be worth taking in 2nd edition and the avioki is one of those iconic ships so i guess we brakiri players should be happy :)

It's always been a shame that the Avioki has been a bit of a weak sister. They looked massive and impressive in the series. Mind you we never saw them kill anything as they only went up against the shadows, and that's a bit of a steep cliff to climb.
