Book Quality Feedback

Mongoose
Ok, I know there have been issues with the quality of the books.

But I watn to hear from the fans who already got shoddy books and bought ones recently that did not need returning.

I want to get some stuff from my local store, mongoose books, but they have to order it in. Ad they are doing remodelling to the shop, I thought it would be nice to support them.

But I am still apprehensive about the books.

So any of you guys get a book within the last month or so you didnt need to return, in very good quality?

My copy of CthulhuTech is solid. As with most things the vocal minority on the internet seems like the majority but isn't.

I do note that with Mongoose switching back to outsoured printing, printing quality issues should be decreased significantly.

Since Mongoose did its own printing I have only got one book with warped covers out of the fifteen that I have brought. And to be honest that is only noticable when the book is closed as the outer edge of the cover is only just away from the first page. If I hadn't heard about the warped covers I doubt that I would even have noticed it.

Not sure it's reallya vocal minority here; I am very pleased that Mongoose is outsourcing their books. To date, I have had 3 books come apart (pages come out and spine cracking) that were printed by the Mongoose press. All of the books I had purchased to date with the new printer had warped covers, and almost all had problems with bubbling laminate and/or shoddy quality (could not sustain wear and tear at a normal level).

So I am very pleased that the new press is up. I've contacted Matthew about the books that fell apart (he's got me on a replacement list) and I have off-loaded almost all of the other books on Ebay and will repurchase them as they are reprinted by the new printers. I'd suggest you wait, as well. My main hope is that when Conan 2nd edition is reprinted, it will be offered in color, for example.

EDIT: As an example of how bad it was, I was told by my FLGS owner that every single one of the people who purchased Cthulhtech from him reported their copies had fallen apart. It was so bad that he mandatorily provided a disclaimer to purchasers of the book that they should expect it to fall apart, and that they needed to contact Mongoose for replacements when it did. I noticed mine had the same problem as my Runequest Deluxe( very thin and weak spine, as well as warped cover, although RQ Deluxe also had bubbling laminate with Cthulhutech did not) and decided to sell it on Ebay instead, and maybe think about a PDF copy in its place....which is really, really unusual for me, since I much prefer print to PDF. I just couldn't take another book I really liked coming apart after the first game session. It's hard to convince my players to buy (for example) Runequest when every new book I bring falls apart during the first game session. That happened to RQ Deluxe (the pages are in sheaves now), Gamemaster's Guide (spine cracked in two) and The Spell Book (pages popping out, spne cracked).

OK, I just got a copy of Slaine runequest and when I opened it the pages started to come away from the spine so I guess that will teach me for opening my big mouth.
