Best Case Scenario: Babylon 5

So, if UoB5 is a smash hit, what is a Best Case Scenario we can expect for supplements? Dual Stated with the 2E products? Web Enhancements with Traveller Crunch? Completely seperate products?

Just curious?

seems to me writing under 2E's OGL would be a dead end so to speak - D&D is on to 4th edition. people are moving on. My friends were initially very interested in Paizo's "3.75" Pathfinder RPG, as its coming to be known, but soon enough the confusion between rulesets became such that they don't want to play 3.5 anymore. we have 3 campaigns of WFRP running right now, and players are loving the system - it is different enough that rule confusion isn't a factor.
So, if Mongoose is going to pursue Babylon 5 under a traveller ruleset, than I say go for it, but don't look back. keep to the new rules.

B5 2E is a complete game. Its still alive if customers keep buying it (just like Conan 2E is d20 and apparently is still selling strong). Its general d20 that is not selling well. But setting specific stuff (like Pathfinder, Babylon 5, Freeport, and Conan) that are still selling well.

I'm not 'in the know', but I expect that every line has a certain amount of 'run time' before sales go down, and the product is then either re-released as a new edition, or replaced with something else. I suspect that the d20 Babylon 5 will keep being published as long as it is still at an acceptable level of profitibility, but once that time has come a re-evaluation would be made about what to do next.

Don't forget that the 2nd edition only came out about a year or two ago. Most lines seem to last at least three years before anything else happens. I'd give it, and Conan, a few years, and then they may get fully integrated with the Traveller/RuneQuest rules respectively. This, of course, depends upon how well these lines are selling. If the Babylon 5 Traveller supplement clearly outsells the d20 version, they may re-consider everything.
