Banded Mongoose
Sunday my Minbo's vs Crusade era EA (Jim-nicest guy)
25 hits on the Apollo cruiser
Apollo devastates my Veshetan (all I can hear in the Tinashi are bits of veshatan hitting against the hull)...smug
Tinashi unleashes 25 hits of P/DD/B from 4AD
less smug....

sorry Jim!

beats me then :-(

19 hits or so with a G'Vrahn, followed by 14ish the next turn. admittedly that was enoguht o smoosh an Adira (quite unfairly so too!)

Not a big total number, but a friend of mine came up with 10 beam hits with a single White Star, and all of that with 1 die, the other failed in the first roll ^^.

Well, I'm unable to remember how many laser fires that came up with... nothing. :?
Satisfiying when it comes from the opponent, though.

I can't remember lots of total misses because they are very rare in our gaming group.
But the so called freak hits with 14 or more hits resulting from 12or 3 starting hits happen quite often. Definitely several times in a single game.
Sorry Mongoose but in my opinion this new Beam rule was a rather silly idea.
It kills a lot of the balance of the game and its absolutely a drawback for high priority ships

you only notice the high hits because of the effect they have, and thats why you forget all the misses.
my beam ships went all tourney with only one high beam hit, so 4 games with one attack that was over average.

Had a Minbari ship with only 1AD of beam left do a whopping 76-odd damage to a Warlock between rerolls and crits a few weeks back.

No it is actually as I wrote it.
One of our players in the group is actually doing a list.
He loves statistics.

Destoyed a perfectly healthy Orestes battle ship with 1 shot from a 1 dice beam from Brikorta skirmish carrier. Not a happy oppoment.
As I've said lots before it's not that the new beams tend to be unbalanced it's just that about once in each game a freak shot (often now not even involving criticals will destroy a ship).
As the best target for beams are high hull ships that are harder to hurt with other guns and as higher hulls tend to be found on bigger ships in means that in most of our games a battle+ level ship has been laid low by a freaky beam shot.
It just seems to be another way in which big ships aren't as good as their weight in smaller ship as even their tougher hull can now be ignored.
While it's good that low hull ships are no longer beam bait I'm not sure I like the fact that it comes at the expense of the iconic but already undervalued larger ships.
At least they can't get re'roles on them.

They don't happen that often but when they do they can be spectacular. I once had 16 hits from a 2AD beam :) but I've also had 0 hits from a 6AD beam :(

I have about average luck with Narn beams but I've actually never launched a mag-gun attack that has failed to inflict terrible damage. This goes for both first and second edition. I've never missed, never caused light damage, and never failed to score at least one critical hit with the shot.

Thus far, second edition has only had one game decided by a freak beam hit. It was a re-creation of the EAS Alexander joining up with Sheridan (2 Hyperions vs. 1 Omega). One of the aft beams on a Hyperion blew half the Omega's damage in one hit and caused two serious and several minor critical effects.

Besides that, my beam luck has never seemed overly good or bad.

so far i've had a warlock oblitirate an octurion with one shot from its beam (full health too) and an omega that did the same to a primus. The poor Centauri player hasn't managed to beat me at the beam game.

Got 12 off a 6 AD once. Played a lot of games since we heard beams were changing & never had a huge amount of hits.

I had 18 hits from a Drakh cruiser against a Shadow youngster. Of course 5 of the DD had to take out his shields. Of the 13 hits 6 were crits. He was physically disrupted. Next turn he was gone.

My wife did 25 hits with a Hyperion's beam last night to my poor little Hermes. Add in double damage and the 6 crits she rolld and BOOM.
She almost won our game with that one hit. I must remember to keep my ship a little farther apart...
