Battlegroup Murfreesboro had their monthly game day yesterday.
We had 9 people playing in 8 different games on three different maps.
Game one was between Mark and John: It was a 1,000 point slugfest featuring FEderatio0n versus Kzinti.
Mark wanted to fly a Mars class BB, so Johna greed (as long as he got the use the playtest version of the Kzinti BB). Stellar debris indicated a Gas Giant and density 10 planetary ring at 8 inchs, 2 moons, and 2 comets. Stellar debris elimanted slightly less than 40% of the map from general play, so they closed fast and unloaded.
The Kzinti BB was Marks primary target. He parked a DWS in a cometary tail and used it to illuminate the BB and to jam his own. In the final turn (Turn #4), the Fed BB adn the DWS reamined while the Kzin had a crippled BB adn 2 DWs left. When teh Kzin BB blew up, it took both severely damaged DWs with it... and pushed the Mars just pastthe crippled point.
We also had two newcomers - Michael P and his 10 year old son. Mike Curtis set them set in a 500 point Kzinti versus Klingon game.
From turn 1, the 10-year old was hooked. "Aw, this is cool". "Can I shoot my ship next?", "you need to let him have everything you've got, Daddy!"
They have played FASA STCS before, so they tried the same tactics and charged into medium range.. .that didn't work and Mike had 3 damaged Kzinti (1 crippled) left after all Klingons were destroyed.
They imedaitely reset for 750 points of Feds versus Klignons.
Mike set his Klingons up on the right border, while Austin set his on the left. ooops.
Mike wiped out the right flank on turn 2 and then turned his attentiuon to the remaining two Klingons. They were gone by Turn 4.
Still Austin had so much fun that they were going to order the ACTASF rulebook last night.
Game 4 was a 500 point battle between myself and John.
My Klingons against his Federation. John split his forces to go around both sides of an asteroid field, so I APtE with all three ships, shoot through the gap between two terrain features and dog-piled on his two Fed DWs before the Kirov could get back around the asteroids. Then it was an easy 3 to 1 battle against the Kirov.
Three turn and 1 hour 12 minutes - start to finish.
The other two games were Kenneth, Bryan, and Martin playing Federation Commnader to get ready for the Origins 2013 tournament.
Photos are posted on teh A Call to Arms Star Fleet fan page over on FB, if you're interested in them.
