Battle Reports! (image Heavy)

Mongoose
Thought we could change the tack of the forum slightly and talk about the actual game for a while! :D Got two games in last night, both at 3,000 points.

I played EFTF vs USMC and then PLA

My force in both games was as follows:

Platoon 1:
4x Infantry section
1x command section
1x SAS section
2x SAS Sniper Team, armed with Barrets
2x Warrior

Platoon 2:
3x challenger 2, one with APS

Air Support:
Eurofighter Typhoon

Game 1: Vs USMC
My mate vinny favours light combat units, so I ended up facing the following:

4x Infantry squads
1x force recon team (I think they had a second MG)
4x sniper team
6x Shadow (all with APS)
2x Abrams
2x Humm-Vee (with APS)

Air support:
1x Stealth Fighter
1x JSF

I won the setup roll and decided to setup and go first. The map consisted of a few buildings on my right flank, some woods to my left, and a hill in the middle. I had one Chally take the right flank, with a warrior and the Chally with APS towards the centre, the two dismounted infantry squads on the left flank and the other warrior and chally between the left and centre.

PB214573.jpg

the USMC setup all out of LOS to prevent first-turn kills. The Sniper Teams and Force Recon deployed into buildings or woods

Turn 1:
EFTF:

Everything advances to the nearest cover. The Chally on the left flank thunders forward into the woods the Force Recon team are hiding in and they fall back as a reaction. Having cleared the woods the Warrior on that flank advances and unloads infantry. The Warrior in the centre unloads its' infantry behind the hill

PB214578.jpg

USMC Turn 1

Sniper Teams go double-ready to perform counter-sniper fire, in one building an SAS fire team ambushes and wipes the team out. Practically everything in that flank then unloads into the building to take the SAS out, leaving only the team leader alive and double suppressed

PB214580.jpg

PB214581.jpg

On the left flank an Abrams speeds forward into the woods occupied by a chally and stuff, and attempts to shoot, doing nothing. The second Abrams moves up onto the hill on that flank and fires at a chally in the open, also doing nothing.

PB214582.jpg

PB214583.jpg

A number of Shadows move up, either dropping troops off or taking potshots at my amoured units, with no effect.

EFTF turn 2.

here begins the embarassment of the EFTF...

The chally in the woods fires on the Abrams and misses. Second action fires out at the force recon team, killing 2 and supressing them. they fall back into the woods as a reaction. Just about every other anti-armour weapon fires on the abrams on the hill, I think I scored one hit in total. Aside form that I fired a lot on Shadows, but their APS protected them from the handful of hits.

The only good thing to happen was I revealed a SAS sniper team who close assaulted the surviving snipers on the left flank and forced them out of the building they were in. My other sniper team reveals ont he right flank and takes out the last surviving US snipers

USMC Turn 2.

Things begin to get worse...

Shadows manage to take out the Warrior in the woods on the left flank (firing from clean over the other side of the map!), the SAS leader on the right flank gets killed and the rest of the shadows try for my other 2 challies, but get nothing. The large patches of open terrain mean the infantry are mostly staying still.

PB214594.jpg

Air Turn.

EFTF:
The Typhoon screams on at burn speed right along the enemy lines, dropping 2 JDAMS into a wooded area, managing to take out one Shadow and all bar 1 marine inside, and doing a point of damage to each of a Shadow and Humm-vee. The Humm-vee reaction fire scores 1 hit on the Typhoon.

the JSF comes on the opposite end to the Eurofighter and fires off both ASRAAMs, scoring 2 kills, but both are countermeasured. the Stealth fighter attempts to bomb the Chally in the woods, but niether shot even scores a hit. Afterwards I ask why he didn't bomb the chally in the open along his flight path, to get the response of "because I'm an idiot"

PB214597.jpg

(the Tornado is standing in for a JSF and has a most unique flying base this week :D)

PB214598.jpg

turn 3:

EFTF:

In a gamble, I move my surviving warrior up onto the hill in the centre and fire down on the Shadow that popped the other warrior. I manage to score 1 hit.

PB214605.jpg

Needing more meat for the Grinder, the other SAS section ambushes - being in the woods with the Chally. They fire out on the troops on the woods directly ahead and supress them. the Chally fires on the Abrams and scores a kill. things begin to look up for the EFTF!

PB214606.jpg

And look back down as surviving sniper team moves to engaage a shadow beside them and miss horribly

PB214599.jpg

USMC:

The Shadows form up and pop the Warrior on the hill, other fire decimates the infantry in the area too.

PB214601.jpg

Thankfully vinny's luck holds out with firing on my challies and none die, though some damage is spread around. The Abrams on the hill advances forward with a ton of infantry, looking to encircle the lone sniper

PB214607.jpg

Air Turn:

The Typhoon has no decent targets along the flight path for bombs, so lines up on the stealth fighter and fires the cannon and 2 ASRAAMs. No damage.

USMC:
The Fighter exits the table and the JSF lines up for a shot on the Typhoon. Fires 2 ASRAAMs and they're coutermeasured again (next turn we realise the JSF has only 2 ASRAAMS and so couldn't have fired anyway. and I comment on how terrible it is for 340 points)

Turn 4:

EFTF
Not much happens here... I manage to pop another shadow, a few more infantry, but that's about it. The other abrams is whittled down some more... has only 1 hit left, but that's about it.

USMC

A similarly anemic turn, nothing of mine dies, but the chally in the woods takes another hit

PB214613.jpg

Air Turn.

Again, not much. The Typhoon strafes the Humm-vee on the right flank and scores a hit, the JSF tries to bomb the Chally with APS and gets nothing.

PB214612.jpg

At this point we call the game because we wanted the other guy who came in to get a shot in too, counting VP put it as a draw. I'd lost the bulk of my infantry, but had my armour largely intact, and my eurofighter was the only aircraft left with weapons at that point! While Vinny still had most of his infantry, I was slowly wearing away his anti-armour capabilities and so had a good chance of just clearing the place out with my Eurofighter's 2 JDAMs and cannon and my 3 functional challies.

Battle report 2 later!

With all due respect, I think the game looks fairly ridiculous.

The forces are way too much for a table of that size. And much more terrain is needed.

Doesn't it bother anyone that your MBT's are lined up shoulder to shoulder like a Napoleonic game?

It's one thing when you're playing micro armor and each miniature represents a platoon or troop of vehicles, but BF Evo is more akin to a skrimish game.

I just don't get it.....

Cripes with all those Shadows, I'm surprised the USMC did not win on turn 1 :)
Can I suggest you make the pics smaller as its a pain having to keep scrolling horizontally to read.

Cheers
Dave

BF Evo scales up very well - we played a 6,000 point game last month at a con. It doesn't bother me having that much armour anyway, I'm more interested in playing *fun* games than adhering to any one asthetic, and the only reason they ended up that close is that we had less cover than usual on the board.

There were some amazingly bad dice rolls, and I did my best to keep my armour units in cover at the very least, though they did manage to cap both warriors with CKEM rounds.

I'll see what I can do abour resizing, I intended to do so before I uploaded, but it was late and I wanted to go to bed :D
