I just realized I should have aligned the decal lower, but will do that on the next one. Still I think it turned out alright. More photos and the write up on my blog.

I forgot to ask, how do you like the white look to it? I put a lot of effort in making the white look the way it does, and it may have been overly done on my part.

I love it.
Crisp... clean... excellent job.

And <shameless plug> The decals make the perfect finishing touch!</shameless plug>

The white looks fine. I just use Krylon glossy white paint, personally. :D

Don't forget to do the phasers and bridge.

Phasers what color are they suppose to be? The bridge, is there any reference pictures of that too?

OK you mean the yellow circle top part! I will get that painted on as soon as possible. Guess I will have to do some kind of wet shading style to that. Like a darker yellow to lighter yellow. Need to think about how to go about doing this. :-)

How did you do the red stripe and federation symbol on the engines? I tried it with my finest brush's tip and it still looked wonky, how do you get it straight?

They are decals from http://www.tenneshington.com you can either pick the default names from Star Fleet or pick your own like I did. They also added some extra stuff that I haven't put on anything yet. So worth buying from them, because of the number of decals given. I have also bought the mongoose ones too but never used, I may should I get other ships or just give them away to my friend.

Tenneshington makes the decals to the box set you buy, but from what I can tell they only have federation but they say they are working for the other box sets too. I think a windows decal set with just rows and rows of different windows would rock!

Phasers are here:

There's 2 on the front of the bulge on bottom of the lower saucer as well.

They are normally light grey, but you can do another color of course. Myself, I use light grey for both the phasers and tractor beams. I also used light grey for the engine detailing, not dark grey, but that's just me.

That's the nice thing about minis, you can deviate from the "official" colors and have some fun yet still be recognizable as Federation ships. :D

Mongoose also do a decal set. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Tenneshington have, and you can't chose your own names, but it is only £5.

Yea I have those also, bought both to see how they match up.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that, me and decals.. don't get one, they never stay on or go on flat without braking up.

Well the Mongoose ones have multiples but only one number/named each, the Tenneshington ones are doubles but custom naming.

As for the Tenneshington ones, it takes very little water to release the decal. I use micro set to soften the decals, paint where you want decal, place decal, brush over with more micro set. I think micro set is ammonia based, smells like it.

I have yet used any of the mongoose ones so not sure how well they go on. look nice none the less.

Here is an updated picture with yellow will do the phaser later on. Also I will have to redo the alignment on the first one to match the 2nd ship at a later date.

For future reference (for Steven nad for anyone else utilizing our decals):
The NCC-number / Name decals are custom designed to fit in the second, concentric ring of hull plates of the miniature they are designed for.

We used a micrometer to determine the size of the space between the 2nd and 3rd grooves.
The decals have the same radius as the hull they are designed for and will fil lthe space between grooves. This is true with every decal from the FF all the way up to the DNG, and everything in-between.

Glad to know after the fact. lol =p but at least I have a spare to correct the issue. Sad thing is I had it in the right spot before moving it.
