Bases

Mongoose
I know, I keep bother you guys on where to get stuff.

I'm picky... I like things being mostly the same. As close as I can manage, at least. I like Mongoose's bases. They are simple and fit well for the minis. I don't care for some of the other style of bases I've seen, like Hex or round but sunken, etc. I want to base my fighters on the small round bases, but obviously the ones that came with my other ships belong to those ships they came with. Is there anywhere to get A LOT more bases? Or, at least, something very similar?

Thanks!

Searched some time ago and found nothing other than GW, which are still my std alternative if I have to use them.

I did a quick net search this morning and didn't find anything, howver found a very interesting textured base supplier in the states, Epicast, no use for CTA though.

Maybe some of the rest of the guys know of a supplier.

I also remember a few months ago in another thread, Matt mentioning that CTA bases could still being available from the Goose and to drop him a PM.

Worth a shot.

Iron Winds are still selling large and small flying bases, as well as metal hex bases for fighters. Mind you, if you're buying from the UK, you'll probably want to either buy a lot of bases, buy some ships as well, or team up with someone else who is placing an order, otherwise you'll pay several times more for shipping than you will for the bases!

Another option might be to make them yourself! I'm guessing that what you want are the circular bases used for some large fighters such as the White Star Fighter or Sky Serpent. Get some of the backing board supplied by art shops for use in frames, cut a suitable diameter circle out of it, and poke a hole in the middle. Or get a suitable sized button, drill a hole in the middle and paint it black.

Some other options for cheap bases:

Litko Aero produces all kinds of plywood, magnetic, and now also acrylic, bases. I've ordered some in the past, and they are quite good. The acrylic flight stands are more expensive than the plywood bases, but may fit in better with the Mongoose acrylic stands, and are cheaper than the ones form IWM/Mongoose.

Gale Force Nine sells "econobases," packaged in takeout food containers. Order by the pint, or by the quart. I got a quart of 25mm bases for ACTA fighters (I'm basing them 3 per -- I'll post pictures once I finish a few), and they work very well. I have to drill holes, but it's very easy to drill through with a pin vice.

From what I can tell, there's no good supply of the rounded-top acrylic bases besides the Mongoose/IWM or GW flight stands. Unfortunate, because I've got plenty of "pegs," but no bases to put them in. I emailed Jim at Litko a while ago about producing some, and he said he couldn't make them, and didn't know who could.

Wow, I've been going through all the stuff you can custom order. I'm blown away! Talk about a resource I wish I had when I started gaming like 20 years ago.
