Babylon 5 newbie looking for suggestions

So I finally bit the bullet. A few years ago I saw the box for sale for $15, but didn't have the cash on me so I left it. And had been kicking myself ever since.

So on the weekend I was perusing through the LGS when I saw a copy of the ACtA STarter Set, and being only $12, I grabbed it, as I just recently finished a trade off Bartertown, and got a couple Narn ships (still not sure what until they get here), and the Centauri Balvarin.

So now that I have an idea of what's going on, I'm not sure of my next step, other than picking up the boxset this weekend. And unfortunately, while my LGS does have some of the rules books they have no minis. Well, that's not completely true as there is a ton of B5 Wars and FA stock in the storage room.

So anyways I am unsure of what to grab next. At a $100+ (CAN) a pop the starters are a litle pricey, but have a ton of ships. I'm just not sure if they are the best way to go.

So I am looking for some recommendations on which ships to pick up for my Narn & Centauri. I wouldn't mind grabbing all of the ships used in the Starter rules.

What else can you guys recommend, other than just grabbing ships at random. I'll probably order the starters at some point, but I don't imagin getting in a lot of large games as there is NO following locally. I'll be the first to pick it up here. Which is why I'm going after two fleets.

you have the starter rules, ok grab the revised edition has full rules and counters* to play, sky full of stars and armageddon expand on fleets, then the dilgar and drakh.

*not all counters since dilgar and drakh have fan made counters.

play with the counters and see what fleet takes your fancy

And welcome to ACTA.

Well for the Narn and Centauri you can't go wrong by getting the iconic ships.
For the Narn the G'Quan and T'Loth class and for the Centauri the Primus and Vorchan class

You're going to get some debate about iconic ships though. The G'Quan, T'Loth, and Vorchan are considered by many to be sub-par ships. The Primus is a good ship though.

Also, the Vorchan while a sexy ship is a royal pain in the ass to assemble. The G'Quan too. Fair warning about both of those.

The game uses the B5 Wars models, but there is nothing to stop you using the FA ones. So see what they has in store, you never know they might want to shift it cheap.

Hey, the G'Quan is generally considered to be a very good ship, just one that needs fleet support (i.e. it won't beat a Primus one on one but it will do damage to it if you have initiative sinks). The T'Loth and Vorchan both have their uses but aren't as straightforward in their power. Centurions, Corvans and Ka'Tocs are probably the next best ships for each race (not counting variants) and are a lower PL so are both cheaper and provide the ability to fight smaller games.
