Babylon 5 Lost Tales: Thoughts and reviews?

I would have prefered a "Corum" ("you have no need of Gods") style ending - the Shadows and Vorlons wipe each other out in a cool battle and leave the galaxy for the others..........
I agree with the feeling that the First Ones became pathetic children rather than the colness they once were.
But evidently lots of people liked it that way................

Yeah, the first ones became a bit pathetic, bu when you consider that the younger races who they'd been bullying and influencing for millenia finally stood up to them and effectively said "Oi, you, NO!" combined with the effect of other Ancients teaming up with Sheridan & co to beat hell out of the Shadows and Vorlons, things must've begun to look pretty grim from their perspective.
Wanting a "parent" figure to go with them and hold their hand makes a lot of sense.

Well for the people that thought there would be a major battle. Come on you have to be jokeng. There is a great stroy here. And there is so much they can do. There are many things that could make great seansons . the Dilgar war!!! would be amazing. see how things get started out. These are great for a little tid bit. The cost of makeing very long fights would make the companies think twice of doing more.

So Sheridan&co would have just sat aside and watched them destroy each other...LOL!

Well like I said I would have prefered an exciting battle........but hey..........I really enjoyed the series till then and that was a really bad ending for me. Not sure "just telling the kids off and letting them learn their lesson" was either exciting or indeed original.

Don't worry dude, B5 won't disappoint. The Shadow War may be over, but there's still Clarke to deal with and the final episode of that whole fight story arc has my favourite scene of the entirety of B5.

I watched it last night.


The first segment was dreadful - despite the gravitas that Fr Cassidy's actor (I forget his name) brought to his role, and the surprisingly well-acted part of 'Asmodeus'.

For someone who has gone into such trouble (in episodes like 'Parliament of Dreams') to show the religious pluralism on Earth and among the various alien cultures portrayed on the series to turn around and chuck all of that out the nearest airlock, AND to completely forget about the myriad of various entities and phenomena that B5 has had to deal with over the years, to turn the story into a piece of PR for the Vatican, is quite annoying.

Very off-putting.


The second story was better, though still not great. I wasn't too sure about Vintari's accent - but then, coming from Ireland, I guess I notice it more than a North American would.

It was great to see Woodward as Galen again - he's a great actor, in the right role - and Sheridan was also great to see on screen.

(Interesting word, gravitas. It seems much easier to watch a less-than-engaging story when it's told by the right actors, but on the other hand it leaves you wishing they had more worthy material to work with!)


And while the external CG shots of B5 and the Valen-class - as well as the Earth-Centauri fight - looked pretty impressive (especially how wonderful B5 looks! Hee hee!) - the internal CG was a bit jarring.

And it was so quiet and empty! It never seemingly occurred to them to have some sort of background ambience for the scenes on B5 itself - though the silence works well on Minbar and on the Valen-class, since it ties into Minbari sensibilities.


To be honest, the parts I liked best on the DVD were the interviews (Woodward hasn't been filled in on the Technomagi! Someone should get him a copy of the Technomage Fact Book from Mongoose, and see the look on JMS' face when Woodward brings it with him for their next production...) and of course the tributes to Richard and Andreas.


So while it was so great to see the station in glorious new CG, and moving to hear the tributes to our friends out beyond the Rim, I was underwhelmed overall.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. As one of the biggest B5 fans out there, and having a pretty big impact thusfar on the existing external B5 storylines (even if some people do not count the RPG stuff as "canon"), I kept having the feeling that the segments felt more like strange, one-act plays than tv shows or movies at all.

People should go out and buy it, if only for the interviews and memorials, and the stories are worth watching...but it was not the great revival that I was hoping for.

As far as the impact on Mongoose goes, I hope to see a Valen-class model kit, and some nice rules for it, but I really dislike the 'quantumspace' crap.

It's supposed to take a lot longer to figure out Vorlon tech than that!

Sigh.

I'm glad you caught that too. Also, the last time the Vorlons tried to find another dimension they opened Thirdspace. This Quantumspace schpiel sounds a whole lot like an out-of-hand explanation for new graphics.

Nah, persoanlly, I think as you said, it was nothing more than cool graphics, the vorlons used hyperspace like everyone else, they know not to medle beyond that! lets pretend it never happend eh?

hmmph... Well my friend and I were talking about this at the store last night. Vorlons are hyperspace masters, they actually can craft the space of Hyperspace around them. I mean look at the episode when Ivanava and Marcus find them in Hyperspace preparing a full scale attack. They literally folded it over them to hide their numbers. Thats probably the same effects of Hyperspace/Quantum space theory. I just hope that we will leave it alone so that we don't have to go crazy with new rules of Quantum space....dude, its just Hyperspace.

I figured in that third space movie, that that was just the other dimensions version of hyperspace.

Edit: Ok I read the whole thing, can't wait to see the vid, and see what quantum space is all about.

They probably did...And calculated the wages needed...And figured better to try to keep budget on smaller levels where possible.

Dunno. If I would be trying to revive B5(and assuming I didn't have unlimited pool of money backing me up) I would try to make sure budget was as small as possible without totally screwing the production. Just to help convince those-who-fund-it to fund more of them.

Also how much alien kits they had lying around? Even more costs...
