I had a great time at Phoenixcon and really enjoyed the B-5 game I played. I still think of myself as a noob so be tolerant if I say obvious things. So far, the only time I've been able to play B-5 is at the con.
We did a 2 point war, EA vs League(me). 1 Warlock and 2 Marathon against a Brakiri Tashkat, a Abbai Lakara, and a Vree Xaak.
Anyway,,,,,what I learned:
Having Abbai in your fleet when playing against EA means never having to say 'I won initiative.'
Gravitic shifters are fun to use against ships that boresight.
Having no interceptors or shields paints a big red "Shoot Me!" sign on your ship.
It also doesn't help if your ship is already shaped like a round target.
If all your weapons have a 'T' arc, getting a 'lose 1 arc' crit is real bummer.
Having shields is fun, until they all go away and don't come back.
Having 10 AD of beam weapons is of no use if Lady Luck farts at you instead of smiles.
When it is a demo game and you're not using special orders, getting multiple bridge hits on your enemy is annoying.
The Lakara did not perform as badly as I was led to believe it would. It was though, the only ship of mine destroyed.
Being the middle ship in a 3 ship battle line is not good. For both of us, the only ship destroyed was the one that started in the middle.
Game results: Draw. We both had 1 ship destroyed (Marathon, Lakara), 1 ship undamaged(Marathon, Tashkat), 1 ship chewed up, but not crippled(Warlock, Xaak).
And the most important lesson: When making that final run through the dealers room after the B-5 game, always remember to pick your mini's back up after setting them down to look at goods and haggle with the dealer. I accidently left my whole fleet at the con. The good news is I've already made calls and found out they were turned in to the con Lost and Found. We're working on getting them back now.
