Australian camo

I just thought I'd post this colour chart I found to paint Auscam in case anyone else wants to convert an Abrams into Aussie colours. It's in Tamiya but it gives a place to start whatever paint range used.

1. Flat Earth (Tamiya XF-52) + lighten with Flesh (Tamiya XF-15)
2. Olive Drab (Tamiya XF-62) + lighten with Flesh (Tamiya XF-15)
3. Black (is black)

Here's the pic showing the cam:

I'm going to leave my Brit army exactly as it is otherwise why pay for pre-painted minis, I just thought building a few custom units in this scale would be fun. Fielding Aussie SAS against Brit SAS would be interesting, I could always say the English retain the Ashes until 2015 and Australia says bugger this and declares war.

lol thats not possible!!! we only let them win last year......

yeah seeing aussie and brit SAS duke it out would be amazing (i'll bet on the Aussies winning, there recent combat record is insane, unless its a CT style op, then ill hand it to the brits)

That's true, you don't hear much about it...

But that only proves they've been doing their jobs properly... 8)

yep, when they got back from Afghanistan recently the army had a press conferance, they did really well, 2 SAS blokes are getting MCs (i think) and a number of our Ch-47 pilots are getting decorated as well.

Like I said in another thread there’s no point bringing out Australians as a faction, but having thought about it, what may be feasible is to have a Support faction made up of one unit from each smaller western nation that can be selected by USMC and EFTF players during army creation. For example, a US player might choose to have a unit of Australian SAS or Canadian Paratroopers in their army. This adds flexibility to already existing factions and keeps those of us in smaller western nations VERY HAPPY!

Julian Lindley-French, a former NATO advisor, said, “In fact I can see a time when Australia would be a member of a reformed and revitalised NATO.” Whether this ever comes true or not, there’s a good chance we’ll continue to see Australian SAS fighting in European task forces in 2015.

A Major who has just left the SAS to become the Australian liaison officer in the US Task Force HQ (Iraq) while referring to the climate in Afghanistan and Iraq said, “Dare I say it - I'm pretty comfortable in that environment. Our special forces are the best in the world and our level of physical and psychological training is very high so we can cope with that sort of thing easily, really. The Americans know that too and they love working with us for that reason. From our point of view, it is excellent to work with the Americans because we get a reach into their intelligence and equipment, which is first rate. The US special forces are very big and good at operating in chaos - and that's largely because creating chaos is one of their tactics. We often look for another way than always going in straight away with a lot of punch.” No one would disagree that Australian SAS are still going to be fighting alongside the US in 2015 wherever they are.

It’s just an idea to consider down the track sometime that would be cool. With a bit of thought you could expand the Support list to include say a unit of North Korean special forces that only the PLA army has access to or a unit of left-wing Journalists that only the MEA army can select.

Perhaps somone who knows more about these matters will correct me, but I read once that Australian SAS troops in Vietnam had an almost ridiculously high level of effectiveness. I can't remember the figures, but it was something like eight hundred confirmed kills during the entire conflict, for the loss of one of there own.
Of course, unlike the Yanks, the Aussies learnt from us Brits, so they were always going to be good!

SASR Squadrons rotated through Vietnam on one year long deployments until the last Squadron was withdrawn in October 1971. During its time in Vietnam the Regiment was extremely successful in the reconnaissance role. It is claimed that the Regiment achieved a 500 to 1 kill ratio against Vietnamese Communist forces. Members of the Regiment became known as 'Phantoms of the Jungle' to Vietnamese Communist forces, attributed to their cunning and fieldcraft.

yeah i know its a wiki entry but ive heard it before to, scary stuff.

Well if you don't like Auscam I guess you could always paint your Aussies green and gold, but then you have to use the "Get drunk and yell obscenities at the other side" special rule.
