Mongoose
hi all, as you may know during discusions on this and other forums, we have been asked to make some modern chinese afv's and the first of which was the wz551 apc, (which will be ready for sale soon), since then some of you have suggested various vehicles and one of which i have started is the type 99 mbt, but i have reached a crucial stage in its design, and i need your input before going further.
i do not have experiance of the b.e. rules and as the type 99 can be bare or with the extra reactive armour fitted i am asking which you would prefer, if the tank ever goes into action it would be fitted with the extra armour, but i have been told that the rules do not cover it, so you can see my problem, do i do 2 x models, one with and one without, or just the one model?
any feedback would be welcome,
thanks

Maybe do the one with the reactive armour first, looks cooler! :)

After that you can always make a second one...

The rules just have overall hit/save/kill scores without any special rules for armour types (except for sideskirts in WAW) so you might as well make the uparmoured version as it's better looking. If rules for reactive armour upgrades appear the player can always say whether it has it or not before the game.

While you're looking at models to produce, are you planning to do any BMP-Ts ? That's the only other vehicle in the game that I don't think has any current or upcoming model available.

hi, thanks for the info, we are looking into doing the bmp/t and i have just enough info to start on it, especialy as we have the base vehicle in our range already, the question is always, how many want it?
please let me know.
i will keep an eye on the type 99 tank question and see what turns up as far as sugestions go.
please keep the answers rolling in, it makes all the difference.

I have rechecked as much PLA MBT pics I could found on the net.

For me the uparmoured version looks definately more futuristic.
And since Bf Evolution is a near future setting I strongly vote for the reactive armoured look!

I'd definitely want a BMP-T. Russian Federal Army is my no. 1 choice for an OpFor to go with my planned British Army force. The BMP-T would be a crucial unit.

I actually meant the BTR-T from the Russian list, the APC based on the T-55, rather than the fire support vehicle (there's already a kit of that around). The nomenclature for a lot of CIS and Chinese stuff varies from source to source and I'm used to the Steel Panthers:MBT stuff.

There's a few other vehicles in the lists that slipped my mind (that don't exist in 1/72 or 1/76 otherwise) i.e. the German Puma ICV (tracked one, not the wheeled MRV), USMC EFV, and Stryker MGS and ATGM versions. Don't think LAV AT is around either, and I don't know if Mongoose are still producing Chinese FAVs and US Shadows or are just selling remaining stocks.

Can't speak for anyone else playing BF:MC, but I've put off buying models at present (shifted to WAW) until I can source a decent range of infantry and vehicles to suit. The UK and US lists are about the only ones I've been able to find enough for, so I for one will be keeping an eye on your site :)

thanks for that, i will be puting a list on this and other forums of what people have suggested for the 15+ club, so have a good think and let me know what vehicles are missing.

Here's a list of what vehicles are in the rulebook, minus the air assets. I know you already do some of these and might not bother with the ones that are readily available as kits or prebuilts but for completeness's sake:

BRITISH: Land Rover Wolf (plus MG, AGL and ATGM versions), Pinzgaur, Saxon, Spartan, Warrior (also OPV and 2000), Challenger 2, Scimitar and Striker.

USMC/US ARMY: EFV (amphib. APC), HMMWV (plus MG, AGL and TOW versions), Shadow (Hummer replacement, has MG and AT versions), Talon Sword robot, LAV-25 (plus AT and AD versions), M1A2, Stryker (plus MGS 105mm and TOW versions), M113, Bradley (and Linebacker AA),

RUSSIA: BMP-3, BTR-T, truck (the Vodnik might be a nice model for this), Tunguska, BMP-T FSV, T-90 and T-95 MBTs,

PLA: EQ-2050 (Hummer knock-off, also ADS version), NORINCO FAV,
WZ-551, Type 96 and 99 MBTs

GERMANY: Leopard 2A6 (with 140mm option), Puma and Marder IFVs, Wolf jeep (MG and AGL options), Fennek recon, Luchs recon, Gepard and Roland AA.

MIDDLE EASTERN: T-72 and Zulfiqar MBTs, Technical w/MG, Desert Iris FAVs, no APCs listed.

thanks ian, out of those listed here are the ones we have had multiple enquiries about:-
usa, shadow
ussr, btr-t
pla, eq-2505,(but already started)
but we also have a massive range of already mastered models from a few years ago, some of which we may either still have the moulds or can remould with enough interest, (e.g. 15+)
g.b., warrior micv.
u.s.a., lav 25 & a/t, m3a3 bradley,m113.
ussr, t55, t72, (3 x versions), ural 375 6x6.
germany, leo 2, lynx 8x8, marder 1, mercedes g wagen (older version of wolf).
so as you can see we may already do a lot of what people need for 'b.e.'
if anyone wants a pdf 'master list' please just email me
sales@sandsmodels.com
and i will send one to you.

You are aware that the Sandsmodel Tpye 99 will be in a different scale, or?
Shauns models are 1/72 = 20mm while Mogoose is around 1/64!

indeed but then i have mongoose 1/64 m1a2s and challys running alongside 1/72 m1a2 and chally tank kits on the table and the diferance is like 2mmish often so no big biggy and the reactive armour will bulk out the 1/72 kit making it evan closer to the 1/64 mongoose version...

comments duly noted, and just to say the type99 is 80% finnished.
could be moulded over week end!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hows that for speed.
