Asteroid fields and Gas Clouds

We typically have them fill about 1/2 the space within the square that is rolled - with irregular borders. That way they look a bit more "natural".

I think this is reasonable, as you are simply rolling to see what terrain is contained within each 1' x 1' square. Otherwise...you will need a very large and strange-looking planet.

We use them about this size but they do vary - often use two smaller ones as well as one larger one - so on can dash through the gaps :)

The book says that although asteroid fields can be any size you like, up to covering the entire table, the usual size is 6" square. Personally I use counters borrowed from another game (Star Warriors), scattered around the 12" by 12" square. The number of counters shows the field density and if you imagine doing "join the dots" with the outer ones, you get the border for the field. Having an irregular border not only looks more natural, it also means clever movement can put a ship into a pocket on the border, protected by most enemy ships except the one it wants to trade shots with. :)

My dust clouds are about A4 size. This is because I grabbed some shots from the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day site, printed them out to cover a full sheet, and laminated them.

Planets are easy, the book tells you how big they should be. :)

Its a snap from my Darkness Rising tourney

The Fleets are Simons Minbari and Gregs Psi Corps - with Narn Allies - in addition later games in the tourney players were allowed to select either Minbari or Shadow allies - Greg chose Vorlon :)
