Arthur C. Clarke 1917-2008

Arthur C. Clarke passed away yesterday from breathing complications. He was one of the mightiest figures in Sci-fi and real-life technological advancements (being a pioneer of both communications satellites and geostationary orbits; and a technician on the technology that would become ILS). I think it's sarfe to say that his brand of rock-hard SF was a major influence on Traveller and his prescence will be sorely missed.

Well Dave Stevens, creator of the Rocketeer and pioneer of "good girl" pin up art died last week, so hopefully Clarke finishes off that Trifecta rather than us having to see another iconic creator die in the near future.

Well, I guess that means that the last of the classic sci-fi writers of the 20th Century has passed away. He's the one whose sensibilities I felt most attuned to also, I have to say (unless you could Phillip K.Dick).

As with any death, it's sad, but he had a good innings and an interesting life nevertheless.

Sad news indeed, he is one of my favorite authors in any genre.

He has left quite a body of work behind and will be remebered for a long time. Hopefully, thousands of years in the future around some distant star someone will still be reading him.

Rest in Peace good Mr. Clark.
