Has anyone seen or tried to houserule an armor damage reduction system that uses damage types (Impact, Pierce, Slash, etc.)? I do realize that this would make the combat last longer, but I was just curious.
Yes I've often thought of something like this, but never got around to doing it myself. You'ld have to be careful not to make it too fiddly, but other than that, the concept is sound enough I suppose.
It works fine provided you don't have too many combats or too many combatants in your game. It can add a nice layer to weapon and armour choice. Chaosium's Worlds of Wonder used this approach.
