The wait is over, and you can now roll over all your enemies with a variety of grav tanks and battle dress-armoured infantry - Armies of the Fifth Frontier War is here!

Armies of the Fifth Frontier War details the organisation, equipment and doctrine of the major belligerents – the Third Imperium, Zhodani Consulate, Sword Words Confederation and Darrian Confederation. Vehicles, personal armour and weaponry are detailed, along with their role in the belligerent powers’ arsenal.

Learn how to handle a squad, platoon or company of lift infantry, or how to conduct a ‘grip and flank’ manoeuvre using the Zhodani ‘system of five’ against the Imperial ‘two wings and a reserve’ model. Discover the advantages of network-centric warfare and psionic-assisted operations… or how to conduct an all-or-nothing meteoric assault on the enemy’s headquarters.

The navies might make headlines but the ground forces make history. Armies of the Fifth Frontier War puts you at the sharp end of the conflict, deciding the fate of worlds one firefight at a time.

And for all you COACC fans out there, I'm sure you've seen this, but welcome to Jewell COAC Command...

Where the vehicles in this book updated to the vehicle handbook 2025 or are we going to have to do that ourselves? We already know unless editing undoes all of Gier’s work that there are significant changes in vehicle design.

Hmmm 2 things so far
1, Zhodani field protection suits Page 60 have no protection value, I assume this is a oversight
2, The "tinker" missile system on page 55 is stated to have multiple tubes available but it has no magazine capacity, once again I assume this is a oversight.

I mean they follow the old style stats and use the same "options" as in the old VHB so that leads me to assume that they are old style vehicles, but hey perhaps the New VHB will generate results similar enough that this is a minor thing

They might not see it here. You should go to the feedback section of the forum and start an Armies of the Fifth Frontier War Errata thread and paste this in there.

I'm a little tight on money at the moment, and military-based sourcebooks tend to be the casualties of my periodic stinginess, but setting lore I love. How much new or interesting information is there on Zhodani and Darrian culture, the nature of their armies and equipment, attitudes to warfare and deployment? Is there information on non-Humans in the Imperial forces and how they're incorporated into the Human-majority army?

Basically, how much lore is there that doesn't directly rely on an interest in (or knowledge of) real-world military matters?

I'll probably end up buying this regardless anyway, since I aim to collect all the Traveller material, but I'll need to make a decision as to whether I grab this now or put it on the "when finances allow" list.

One hilarious piece of lore-building I’ve come across thus far is the attempt to get rid of the (Evil! Sexist!) term “no man’s land” by asserting that in Zhodani the term (venchdlabr ste’) means “nobody’s land” and proceeding to clunkily use that, throughout. They’d make a godawful translator if they couldn’t use parallel, pre-existing idioms in the target language…

There's approximately zero setting lore that doesn't relate to either gear or military theory. It's very much the army version of "Warfleets of the Fifth Frontier War" not any kind of equivalent of the Imperial Navy Sourcebook.

Go tell it on the Sword Worlds 😉

Thanks!

I'll put it on the "buy eventually when funds are more freely available" list.

Not that I begrudge it; I know there are lot of military and ex-military personnel who love Traveller, and I'm glad they're getting some meat, but it's low on my list.
