Armageddon FAQ

You know, I'd never noticed the bit about damage resistant ships.....

Good to get the hyperplasma cutter bit cleared up, though. Thanks..

I´m a little lost with the point about the Vree: +1 Crew score on auxiliary craft? +1 Crew value? +1 Crew quality? Which crew score? Have I overlooked something?

Oh, and just to make sure that I got the Hyperplasma Cutter right: When you fire all three of them at one target, you´ll get a total of 22 AD, right?

Ok here goes:

1. Auxiliary craft have no "crew" - they're one-shot kills like every over aux craft.
2. However dogfighting is settled by an opposed roll like this: Dogfight score of aux craft + No. of Supporting Flights + CREW QUALITY + 1d6 (also +1 if Fleet Carrier present)

Example: EA Starfury vs. Vree Tzymm
Assume no supporting flight or fleet carrier for either side.
Starfury: Dogfight (+2) + CQ (4) + 1d6
Tzymm: Dogfight (+1) + CQ (4) + 1d6

3. Armageddon specified that the Crew Quality of fighter craft was now ALWAYS 4 except for "ISA and Vree" that get their "usual" bonuses.
4. We all know that ISA get a bonus to Crew Quality so all of their aux craft have CQ5 instead of CQ4.
5. However, some rules-lawer scumbags (you know who you are ;) ) said that Vree do not normally get a bonus to Crew Quality - they DO get a bonus to Crew Quality CHECKS because they are telepathic (see SFoS). Since dogfighting isn't technically a CQ Check then it doesn't qualify for this bonus.
6. The rules-lawyer concludes that the "usual" bonus for Vree to Crew Quality is in fact - zero :(
7. The Armageddon FAQ clarifies this by specifying that Vree DO get a bonus to Crew Quality for their Auxiliary craft only (presumably for their telepathy) and so DO get to have fighter craft with CQ5.

Applying to our above example we get:
Starfury: Dogfight (+2) + CQ (4) + 1d6
Tzymm: Dogfight (+1) + CQ (5) + 1d6

At least that's what I think it says... ;) WooHoo my League fleet's best fighter just got better!

Ah logic goes out of the window yet again. Another exception to the rules "as written" for the ever-growing list.

So Vree aux craft get a bonus to their CQ, yet Vree ships only get a bonus to CQ checks.

PS. The only typo I could find is in the ISA Starfuries quettion, should say "use" not "uses". And the question should refer to all ISA furies/t'bolts, not just ones launched from a Victory.

This is precisely why we are heading for a second edition - after a while, any game that gets constantly updated needs a tidy. This is what we are working on at the moment (with a few cool new things thrown in for good measure!).

Thanks, I think that it is fantastic that you have this up. Even better since my Vree fighters now have a chance of doing something decent.

This is how I read it, but some posts on the forums had convinced me otherwise.

Telepathy..... you have a bogey on you tail jig right and I will get him for you. What do you think the CQ bonuses would be for HIVE MINDs?

Yeah, it'll be good to have 2nd Edition. With three books for the core game, at least two FAQs, and debates about tournament vs. books for the fleet lists, it's definately time for the new edition.

Just give it to us after it's finished. No rushing. :D

Amen to that! I have an injured foot at the moment, and a tournament to run on Sunday - I wish there were only two books to carry around!

I thought Armageddon was supposed to tidy things up while adding some cool new stuff

Well, to be fair, it did. However, there is only so far we can go with a supplement, whereas a new rulebook allows us to make more sweeping changes. For example, we had the new Fighter rules ready by the time Armageddon was being prepared, but felt they were too much of a shift for a supplement.

Just an explanation of where we are coming from on this :)
