Argossean or Hyborian

As a GM how flexible would you be in the following case.

I have a campaign starting in Messantia and the players know this. They have been asked to come up with characters of any race but they have to provide a background as to how they ended up looking for work in Argos.

Having read some background material I gave them one of my players wants to start as a native Argossean but is nervous about stereotyping himself as a pirate. He would prefer to build his character using the base Hyborian race and start a noble - minor son of an upcountry family come to the big city of cash, but with some local knowledge and connections. Such a character would not hurt the campaign - we are not staying in Messantia long anyway and fraankly long term pirate would not be a great preferedd choice as we will soon be in Shem and Zamora.

Can you use the Hyborian template for Hyborians that strictly belong to the more specific racial groups ?

Yes, you can do that. Also, the Argos & Zingara sourcebook has some Argossean variants that aren't pirates, if you want to go that route, but just using a generic Hyborian is just as good.
