Any players in Austin, Texas?

Mongoose
My players have just dispatched Yara in the Tower of the Elephant and are on their way to Shadizar. The party average is 5th level at the moment and we could use another player or two. Our game day is every other Saturday. Our next session will be on Saturday the 16th from noon to 6 pm.

Miniatures are used for tactical combat and we try to keep book dives to a minimum. Scenarios come from a mixture of published adventures and original content tailored to the party.

We're looking for someone who can take a game seriously, can stay in character but can give and take a joke as well. What we don't want are rules lawyers (though we pride ourselves on sticking as close to the rules as possible), dice fudgers (because rolling a 1 on a die shouldn't be anything to stress about, it just adds to the challenge of the scenario), or social miscreants.

Bummer - Im about 5 hours NorthWest of you. Big Spring here, Midland Chapter of the LSHM. Im afraid Im the only RPGr in our group though. Grumpy old grognards!

That's rough man. So, do you get to play at all?

Yeah, Ive got a couple regular players and my 20 y/o son that are in the middle of a campaign right now. We are kind of the outcasts of the local gaming group though :)

We are about 8 sessions into our campaign. Having a ton of fun!

Cool. I've been gaming with my group since January, averaging 2 games a month. Great group of guys, really into the spirit of the game.

Are you running original material for your group? I've run published scenarios so far (and will probably continue in this manner as RL prevents me from having the necessary time to write and populate original material, though I do tailor the published material to my group).

So far we've run through:

1. The Coming of Hanuman
2. The Black Stones of Kovag-re
3. The Tower of the Elephant

We are running all original material so far. My players werent interested in a episodic game. We might get around to including some of the published stuff, if it ever fits, we will have to see.

Hey you lucky Conan-maniacs - don't forget that Howard Days - the annual celebration of Robert E. Howard - is this weekend in his home town of Cross Plains, Texas. I went last year and it is well worth the trip if you can make the time. Here's a link with more info:

If you can't make it and want to see REH's house where he wrote all his incredible stories and poems, I took some pictures you can checkout:

Cool pics Strom. Yeah, I plan on heading out to Cross Plains eventually, just can't do it this weekend. Luckily, my girlfriend, who refers to Conan as "that brute", loves literary tours, so I'll have company for the road when I do make plans to head out there.

I paid my own respects in a personal pilgrimage to Cross Plains a couple weeks back. Very moving experience for a Howard fan.

Cool. So other than the museum, what all is there to do?

You can visit Robert's and Novalyne Price's grave sites and visit the Cross Plains library and see Howard's original transcripts for many of his stories. You can buy numerous books and memorabilia at the library. You can visit some of the haunts Robert used to go to like downtown or where the icehouse was. You can see (and possibly) walk around the wilderness and mountainous region of Cado Peak - an area that Robert went to for inspiration. You can talk to original Cross Plains townsfolk who knew The Howard's - although that is a depleting crowd. You can visit Brownstown University where Howard's Dad donated Howard's book collection, plus other neat stuff.

But the highlight of the trip will definitly be Robert's house. When I was there no matter what we did I always went back to the house. It was an incredible experience that every fan of Howard should try and experience, IMO. It was powerful. 8)

Well said Strom - minor correction, its Brown"wood" not Browntown, no big deal though. You are dead on about the house being a sort of spiritual centerpoint. I sat in the little pavilion they have erected nearby and read through a few pages of "The Frost Giant's Dauther" as a sort of tribute. I tried to imagine his voice ringing out from his bedroom window nearby. Very very cool.

Thanks rgrove0172 for the correction. The pavilion is great - but I never thought to read some Howard there. Great idea - very cool, indeed. 8)

Filling in my trip itinerary as I type.
