Any news on fleet box contents and pricing?

Do I read the post on the Fed Com forum correctly that they will be selling the blisters at different rates or just thats what they normally do with blisters??? :?

Da Boss, the Starline 2500 blister packs will be $14.95. This won't vary from Mongoose to ADB, Inc.

What SVC was meaning is that "our ships" (the 2400 line) have prices that vary based on cost to us. That won't change, either as we won't be changing those prices to be "standardized."

Does that help clear things up?

So is my math off It will cost me $8.70 more to buy one ship then get a fleet box set at a cost per ship of $6.25.

Sad to say, packaging and labor take a huge amount of money. Look at meals that you buy: One egg costs $2.50 and adding an egg is $0.50. My grandfather always used to joke that he'd like to buy the second egg, please. You are also dealing with the equivalent of "a la carte" which is always expensive.

What costs for one mini is the physical packaging (and I don't think the blister packs are very cheap, unlike perfectly square boxes), the person to go and get the ship you have just ordered, the person to do a last quality check on it to make sure it hasn't been damaged, and the person to package it. The boxed sets can be assembled sort of in an assembly line. :( No time, no checking to verify an F5 didn't get in the E4 box, no hunting up of anything. Just grab A, B, C, D and go.

Over on ADB's BBS, we have a topic already for Buy / Sell / Swap. Individuals are always welcome to use it to facilitate a good gaming experience.

Random and probably silly question.

Blister packs are all nice to look at for shops but a waste for people who mail order, what about a mail order box plus a bit of foam up to 4-6 ships, then we order say a cruiser, a light cruiser, a DD and 2 FFs at a price each, you drop them in a box and post it. No messy blisters or fancy packing which mail order customers don't want anyway, You get sales, we get the squadrons and fleets we want and can budget accordingly. Playing 1000 point games you don't want a DN but you do want multiple smaller ships which otherwise requires buying loads of blisters and/or squadron boxes.

For example the Fed squadron box contains a DN, BC, CA, CL and FF. Would it be roughly the same price to have a box containing a CA, CL, 2 x DD and 2 x FF (or thereabouts) making a good early war task force in a box which makes mail order packing simpler and is going to be a better deal and hence sell more to players. Not sure how you are fixed for person power to load the boxes, do the ships come individualy and you just pick and pack?

thanks Jean for clarification

I know the first ACTA B5 ships I got from MGP where similar - just in plastic bags inside a box and often later mail order ships were just bags in envelopes. It may however be that the time and effort to sort pack and send is not worth it.

The Squadron boxes are not all ideal but as I read it MGP are constrained by ADB's previous versions/Customers and also they both hope to sell lots of fleet boxes.......

Swapping and selling will I think be important - will there be any other online outlets (Mailstrom etc) other than MGP/ADB

Paying someone to pick and pack is probably fairly expensive as well. Of course, you have to pay people to pack standardised boxes, but the percentage of the total price you are charging for the product is going to be lower for the boxes than for pick-on-demand.

Personally, I think I will go with the Squadron boxes and get the Border box from ADB.

If I bought Squadron Box #1,#2, and #3, plus Border Box #1 I'd have:

For Feds, Klinks (approximately):
Dreadnought
Heavy battlecruiser
3xCA
3xCL/CW
3xDD/DW
3xFF

Plus a battlestation, a bunch of freighters of various types, and some other odds and ends (Kzinti, tholians, pirates)

There should be a battlestation in the early releases. I am sure there will be a starbase at some point, I seem to remember seeing a render of some kind of base and people arguing about the turbolift tubes, but that may have been the mobile base.

If the second book covers battleships, then it would make sense to do the starbase at the same time since the SB for FC came out at the same time as BBs.

Mongoose did do reinforcement boxes for B5 ACTA - sort of half size fleet boxes. Also they do listen to customers, if the demand is there, they will do it.

There will be a starbase eventually; I am just not sure where it falls in the order of things.

As for additional boxed sets, SVC wrote on ADB's BBS: Mongoose and ADB are both companies that respond to the market and in a few months if we think that the market wants a box with a certain combination and will buy it in sufficient quantities to make it a regular part of the line, we will do so.
