Hey all,

Just getting up to speed on the rules for my first Mongoose Traveller game this weekend. I'm running the classic double adventure Marooned. I'm working on converting all the encounter tables.

So here is my question. How is animal movement calculated? Has this been addressed somewhere? I can't seem to find it in the rules or posted on the forums.

With that in mind, is there a FAQ somewhere to answer questions like this?

Maybe no one has the answer, or your thread title didn't grab their attention.


Now to answer your original question, what do you mean by "how is animal movement calculated"? For creature creation there is an example on the bottom of page 70 or the main book.

It doesn't appear to be calculated anywhere at all... Looks like an omission in the rules to me. You can determine locomotion type and quirks, but there's nothing about the animal's speed in there.
 
After my post I pulled out my pocket ed. of Traveller and gave it a better read before going to bed (my original reply was from the PDF, which is not always the best format for casual reading).

The example on pg 70 goes through creating the creature: determining its movement type, if it's omnivore, herbivore, etc. If you search through the book the closest it comes to defining what a creatures movement is saying if it's walking, flying, swimming, etc.

Also, if you look at the examples on page 73, the bottom entry "Thunderers" states that it is a "Slow, ponderous tripeds who use their great bulk to drive off competitors" but there is nothing in the creature gen that drives the creation of such a creature.

Has anyone spotted where the base speed for these movement modes and other defining information like size and such?
