An Immediate Ban on the OTU - Effective 8.11.08

Given recent events, I can say with confidence that right now there are 3-6 long-time Traveller fans running around waving their arms (metaphorically speaking) and having a big Internet debate about whether Mongoose should be allowed to ban the OTU.

Some of you know what I'm referring to...

Is that the one whos holding aloft the "holy" text ?

Returns back to corner and sits down....Jack wheres my beer ?

Yep, a nice miniature of Canon the Barbarian, I think. :D

Groan. :(

I always wondered if the Traveller canon could be fitted into a turret, or required a bay.

Then again, its gotten so big over the years the canon's probably a spinal mount.

Right, the infamous "Little Black Book of Combative Citations", and he
enters his terrible barbarian rage whenever two contradictory citations
are uttered at the same time ... which is, almost always.

Remember that you can only go up 1,000,000 tons and thats just to small for such a weapon to be housed in.

An announcement from "Archduke" Norris of the Domain of Canon

You will all by now have heard the disturbing news from Core, that our beloved Game System is being ravaged by terrible viruses, of which those codenamed GURPS and Mongoose are but the most destructive. The whereabouts of Emperor Mark are unknown. Consequently I, "Archduke" Norris [can someone find out where those pesky quote marks keep coming from already! - N] have ordained that the Domain of Canon shall henceforth be sealed off from the outside universe to preserve the sanctity of the Game Universe. It may have been corrupted beyond all hope of redemption elsewhere, but we shall keep the flame burning bright! I, "Archduke" Norris [stop that! I have a genuine grant of archducal privilege signed by Emperor Mark milliseconds before he disappeared! - N] will be the chairman of the Regency Council and picket boats will be posted at all borders to turn back incoming vessels, especially those arriving from empty hexes. Yes - even if they are armed with bay weapons that should not be found on ships of such low displacement we shall drive them back! To arms, Canonites, to arms!!!! And can someone get those Zhd20ani refugees out of my kitchen!

So basically you are suggesting that this needs something introduced on the scale of the Death Star Canon....and now suddenly we have two sets of official universes' canon to keep in line with? The circle expands. Im off to the corner.....

Madness I tell you...maaaadnesss.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing"

I think I'll join you back in the corner now.

Corner? Oooh, Hivers like corners ;) I think I'll join you.

<Pulls out a very worn paper bag containing sweets/candy>

Proof that this whole thread was a Hiver manipulation in the first place

You wanna talk canon? Here's one.

Project Steel has been okayed by Marc and the Canon Committee.

Project Steel contains an answer to the Jump Torpedo question.

So there we are.

So here it is!

The first Jump Torpedo test caused a rift in the space/time continuum and that is what created GURPS Traveller!

Now I understand... Mirror Mirror for Traveller (that a Star Trek reference to add to the Star Wars referece earlier).

(moves over to the corner, grabs a Guinness and a handful of sweets...)

Who let the riff-raff in ?, thats ruined the house prices.

Roger... Ruined the house prices???...as opposed to explaining the starfish lurking behind the sofa with sweeties and a come hither pseudopod????

I can remember a time... vaguely... when the Referee actually had a say in what was what in his own game and any one who ever had to care about what he had to say was the Players in his group.

We had tons of discrepancies, anomalies and contradictions and sometimes the game you bought was only half finished and you had to make up the rest yourself if you wanted to create even thew most basic character... no wait... that was Mongoose Conan 1st Edition... But still!

Those were the days...

... then something happened... something called 'the Internet'.

Now I can't even sneeze without being accused of breaking some spoken or unspoken rule.

People who shout about Canon to loudly ought to shampoo my crotch. When I'm the Ref; It's MY GAME! Period.

Sometimes I can ask for advice because I have trouble making up my mind about something. I can gather information and make a decision about how I will do it in MY game. But having arguments about it over the internet trying to win some imaginary fight against people I don't even know, is NOT for me.

"Walk on, citizen, there is nothing to read, and we will deal with this canon
heretic immediately.
Now, where are the feathers ?
We have the priest with bell, little black book and candle [check], we have
the two dozen TL 3 peasants with pitchforks and torches [check], we also
have the stake and the tar [check] ...
Do Hivers eat feathers ?
Well, a GT book ripped apart will do for the feathers, I think."

Hehehehe... :)

Yeah you can try to scilence me but I will not stand for it.

REVOLUTION EVERYONE, REVOLUTION!!!
FIGHT THE POWER!

Less talk more play! That's what I say!

Somewhat strange situation, with "happiness and mutual co-operation"
inside the ring, and canon debates and flame wars all around it ...

Sort of like a European Football match, isn't it?
