Ammunition has no weight?

Is it just me?

But I cant find the weight of small arms ammo anywhere.

Is it like most computer games that ammo does not weigh anything???

Come on now, ammo weights a significant amount, and who here thinks that pcs and npcs only carry whats in the gun.

Am I gonna have to go thru all of the old CT books and MT books to make my own list.

One would of thought that this could of been a simple column added right next to cost of the ammo in the weapon lists.

Maybe this will be in errata?!

IMO this is one of the big advantages of laser weapons - the ammo weighs nothing (OK, the powerpack that stores the ammo does, but…). And, for a star-spanning military, there are no logistical problems keeping troops supplied with ammo - all they need is access to a powerplant.

But out in the field if the power pack runs out then you are out of ammo until you can get it recharged. Or carry around a spare powerpack and right back to weight. Though it is a bit nicer without the ship having to carry all that extra ammunition it might otherwise need.

I really would like to see some ammo weights, though. I know they are incredibly hard to get hold of, because a lot of the data available these days relates only to bullet weights and powder charges. Maybe some kind souls in the less gun-phobic nations could delve into their supply and make use of some electronic scales?

If you have the Guns Guns Guns supplement, there is a huge list of ammo weights (per round) and magazine weights... that said, MGT should have this as a kit list as well.

I have one player, an ex-Marine who firmly believes that you can never carry too much ammo, and if you can't move you are not carrying enough ammo, you merely require logistical support :)

OK, I just got a hold of a scale, so here's the weights on the ammo I have. These are still not overly exact; I was using a postal scale that measures in ounces (oz) and I converted to grams (g). A full 30 round magazine for an AK-47 (7.62x39mm), loaded with fully jacketed ball ammo, weighs 29.5 oz, or about 836 g. A single bullet looked like about 0.75 oz, or 21.25 g. A full 30 round magazine for an M-1 carbine (7.62x33mm), loaded with fully jacketed ball ammo, weighs 18 oz, or about 510 g. A 15 round magazine weighs 9.5 oz or 269 g. A single bullet looked like about 0.5 oz, or 14.18 g. Those are the only firearms I own, so that's what I can offer right now. I hope this gives a little real-world perspective.

That's great, Sevya! That takes care of a lot of combat rifle stuff, plenty good enough as far as RPG accuracy levels are concerned.

Now, please go out again, I have a shopping list for you:

Self-loading shotgun (anything will do, but Bennellis are pretty)
Glock 9mm
Desert Eagle .50" (hey, Travellers need big handgun calibres)
9mm H&K SMG
.458" magnum rifle (I don't think there are any with box magazines, though ...

You wouldn't be able to get your hands on a Barrett Light 50, would you?

from a mail order company

and this i think does most of what people want:

Using Paul's site, and old CT traveller, and TNE traveller I am getting what I need. Takes a little bit of work. Keeping it simple is the Idea.

It helps that I am presently running a Twilight 2000/Traveller TNE Game at this time. So I do have all the stuff handy.

Though the real world and work are not being nice and letting me have a whole lot of free time to do what I want :P.

If I can get it into a simple format. I will post it here for the rest of you to use. Right now I am just penciling it in my books (including the Central Supply Catalog).

This is great stuff - I think I've got what I need. Now MGT just needs to put out another errata PDF.

I'll see what my father-in-law has. He prefers .45 for pistols, and he has a Mac 10 rather than an MP-5. As for the Barrett, I may be able to weigh the ammo at a gun store...
:D

I got interested in round wieghts and found this:

http://ammoguide.com/

The Wikipedia article on the Barrett .50 gives plenty of detail:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_M82

and if you click on the link to the .50 BMG round in the Barrett's info box it takes you to the Wikipedia page for that round:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG

where it gives weights for some variant rounds and other useful, crunchy data...

...which was obtained from the link to the first site (top of this post).
