Amazon must hate me or the Mongoose!

Mongoose
I ordered both Vikings and the new Elric book from Amazon both as preorders. In fact they solicited me as I bought both the second edition and the Monster Collesium through Amazon. It is now months later, and they have cancelled both orders on me because they "can't get them!" Which really doesn't make sense as they are the ones who contacted me and recommended I buy them!!! I am really getting to despise Amazon!!!
I remember now that I had a huge fight with them the last time I ordered the book on Necromancy from them and got the run around then! Is it me or do they just dislike the Mongoose!?

Hey there,

Was this Amazon.com (where there should not be any problems) or Amazon.co.uk (which has never really worked right)?

I've always had the same problem with Amazon in regard to Mongoose products. Everything except the core rulebook, I think.

I'll place a pre-order and wait a month or two, then it gets canceled.
(That's Amazon US)

I don't know if you have any say in the matter, but you might want to find out why your recent MRQII publications have been unavailable at Amazon.ca and Chapters (a major Canadian on-line book store/seller). I pre-ordered Cults of Glorantha from Chapters w-a-y back. The book never arrived and now shows as "Sold Out". I eventually cancelled the order and bought it on-line from a seller in the U.S. (which I don't like to do for shipping costs and currency conversion fees).

A lot of us live far away from gaming stores, and online is the only feasible way to purchase rpg products.

Something went wrong with Amazon for Mongoose and a bunch of other comics/frpg vendors around a year ago. There was a glitch that showed very low prices. I jumped on it and they canceled my order, but then gave me a $25 gift certificate in compensation. Since then, the product vendors affected by the glitch have been hard to get and their products generally undiscounted. It may be something to do with the distributor. I've switched to ebay to get the best mix of cost-effectiveness.

I think it's more on a case by case basis as I have always used amazon.com for rune quest and traveller books from mongoose as they are invariably cheaper. I have never had a problem and in fact just ordered Pavis rises a week ago and received it today. I do not preorder though and maybe that's the difference.

In my case, the Canadian Amazon/Chapters sites just never show the books in stock. For example, Pavis is available from Amazon.com, but completely absent from .ca

It boils down to shipping costs, most US stores / ebay charge ridiculous fees for out-of-country shipping. Buying from Canada would seem to make the most sense for me, but I think there must be some distributor problem because it isn't only Mongoose products that are missing.

Amazon.com! They were both preorders. Told me, via email, that they couldn't get the books at all.

I had Cults cancelled also. (and now that I checked - Vikings has been canceled also. Which was on pre-Order. )

Book Depository seems to have the same problem..i pre ordered as have free shipping to NZ, now they say no idea when books coming to them...

..the last two books i ordered direct from Mongoose came within 10 working days...

Well, there is a moral there :)

Amazon has always been a law unto itself, but we'll be looking at this early next year top see if we cannot get a better system working.

It's not just Mongoose books, I've had trouble with almost every preorder I've placed with Amazon UK. Orders get cancelled, then listed as unreleased, with a new release date (months from the time everyone else has copies), 'card problems', etc., etc..

Their prices can be sometimes be appealing, but I now never preorder, and only pay attention when they say an item is 'in stock'.

I would hope that this works out for you because, I assume, you're losing a lot of business due to Amazon (or other on-line booksellers) not stocking Mongoose's books. Certainly, I'm only purchasing the RQII books that are necessary to our campaign, whereas if all the books were available (in my case from Chapters.ca) I'd buy more.

Add another voice of Canadian Concern to the mix. Very few Mongoose books are now available on Chapters and Amazon.ca no longer seems to have your items available.

In general pdfs appear a month or two after hard copy releases.

LBH

Sweet, having a PDF is very useful (as well as the hard cover book)

Thank the Gods for Ipads!
