Altering Ships

Are there rules/costs somewhere for altering ships?

specific request is to put a hatch in the floor of the Captain's cabin to allow direct access to the bride

(Soho class from JTAS if relevant)

CT Trillion Credit Squadron and MgT1 Trillion Credit Squadron has procedures for refitting ships, but not nearly to the level of hatches.

An extra hatch should be simple; let a shipyard charge a few thousand Cr for a few days work?

"Expensive guv.

It's not just a matter of cutting a hole in the floor you see.

There are power lines to re-route, water and air pipework to shift. Then there is the matter of cutting through the bulkhead.

Nah, not cheap.

Then there is the recalibration of the floor grav plates and acceleration compensators, you also have the choice of hatch or iris valve, ladder or elevator.

Call it a hundred thousand and we can get started Tuesday."

My advice - get your ship engineer to cut a hole in the floor, make a ladder and fit a hatch from the scrapyard - a few thousand at the most.

Tonnage affected, times modified cost per tonne, times two hundred percent if bulkhead (one hundred twenty percent otherwise), if the crew does the alteration.

Not counting requisite tools and equipment.

Add labour if outside contractor.

Don’t forget ensuring a vacuum-tight seal around the hole in the deck. Plus you have to redo the carpet and remap the space for the cleaning bot. And those mandatory yellow-black trip hazard markings can really mess with the fang shui of the cabin...

Umm, what's the situation that the captain can't access the bride? Someone seal her in? Hope she has extra life support.

The layout of the Soho class is a bit awkward if there's an emergency. Bridge lower deck, cabins upper deck and a bit of horizontal distance too. Skipper wants fast access to the bridge in an emergency
