All New Signs & Portents

Hi Everyone

In two issues time, otherwise known as October, we will be launching the All new better than ever S&P. We shall be updating the magazine as a whole to commemorate the end of it's first five years, and the beginning of the next five.

Fear not, the content will still be the same, but thanks to the redesign of the layout, we will have more space and so even more content, and will be able to do this whilst retaining the file size that it is now.

The all new S&P will also include several new regular features. We have several being worked on already, and those that are finalised will be revealed in an article in the september issue of S&P (aka the last of the old style).

I thought however that it was only fair to see if the readers of S&P have any suggestions of their own. I cannot commit to all of your ideas being used, and obviously we may have come up with the same ideas and implimented them already but if you can come up with any little gems then they will find their way in.

I want to get a feel for the type of regular monthly features that you the readers would like to see in your magazine.

SO feel free to make suggestions here, or directly to me via pm or email.

Thanks guys, can't wait to hear what you come up with.

Charlie

Since I only play Conan (it's all I have time for, not that I wouldn't play Traveler if I had the chance) I can only speak for that game though I think this would probably apply to most other games Moongoose publishes.

In each issue I'd like a Conan adventure and a general article such as new monsters, country setting, or new spells. Maybe the article could tie into the adventure in some way, perhaps fully describing the city where the adventure takes place or a sorcerous society the players come up against.

These adventures don't have to be long. Short adventures of 2 to 3 encounters are useful for the harried GM and easy to read an play.

Thanks!

I am still to play more than a session of RQ but hope to play more, and my mate has just bought loads of Conan stuff which we may play eventually.

Anyway, selfcontained locales & mini settings, e.g. detailing a section of Pamaltela, a tribe and some adversaries.

Also short adventures, something like the Savage Worlds one sheets, short and quick to read, just enough to fill a session.

Sounds cool, Charlie. Personally, I'm pleased to hear that the size of the magazine is increasing. I know some people that both roleplay and wargame, but the majority of gamers seem to have a preference for one or the other. Since the magazine shrank back into a single publication, there has inevitably been less chance to keep everyone happy - though, I must say your first few issues have included a good breadth of systems and material. Still, more pages means more articles and that's got to be good.

I also like the proposal above for quick adventures a la Savage World of Solomon Kane. I've only played one of these but it worked very well, and seems like a good format. In fact, I shall probably put pen to paper myself and try writing one. :)

I agree, the return of Monty's offer of the Month would be fantastic.

Perhaps a small SRD/OGL section would be available, highlighting and/or reviewing some of the new content being put out by others using the Runequest, Traveller, and Battlefield Evolution systems.

I second Shotgun-Toting Chipmunk's idea and would like to see a hobby section that shows what models are being used for all the OGL games.

Another suggestion:

How about short articles under 1000 words?

They can be anything from a fully-statted NPC villain to the history of an infamous sorcerer and his lost treasure to new weapons and armor of a specific country to new uses for old skills.

How about side-treks? the one encounter adventure that can be dropped into any game?

Because Mongoose supports a lot of systems, you might want to either make each side trek generic or set up a rotating schedule of supported systems.

Another suggestion, when Paizo still had Dragon and Dungeon, they had a document describing their submission guidelines which was quite extensive. Maybe a similiar document could be done for S&P?

A few weeks ago I gave some pointers to someone on the boards who did not have a clue how to contact you, so the need is there.

I like the idea of a mini adventure in each magazine, but you could make it a generic adventure then include tips on how to incorporate it into the different RPG systems.

Similar to how Paizo did their adventurers for Dungeons and Dragons.

Also i think it would be Cool to see a Scenario for B5 A Call to Arms on month then a battle report for that Scenario in the next moths mag.

Keep up the good Work

Sting.
