All I Want Are The Dropships

Mongoose
Hey all,

haven't posted in a long time, probably a year. Bought SST on the day it came out and I still have very large MI and Arachnid armies. I love the SST rules, I think they're some of the best I've ever played.

I don't care about prepaints, I don't care about no new models until 2009 or whatever. I've got plenty of MI and bugs, the rules and army lists are flexible enough that you can field one army type and have dozens of different play styles depending on the scenario, objectives, what you had for breakfast, whatever. I love SST.

What I do care about, and what I want, are the drop ships.

We know they're done, we've had previews for years.

I don't care if they're plastic, metal, resin, or balsa wood.

The previews looked great.

I want the dropships.

I don't care who makes them.

Mongoose, sell the protos, molds, whatever, or license them to some other manufacturer who can get them made.

I have a hundred LAMI who need Vikings. I need Slingshots and Skyhooks. And I need TAC Fighters to engage the hoppers and ripplers.

I *want* these dropships. I will buy HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS worth of dropships. I have been waiting for years.

I am literally waiting to throw money at you.

Produce these models. There's so many SST players and non SST players who want them for SST or any other game system.

Just make them, or have another company make them, like the new Armorcast. I don't care. License them to someone else.

I don't care. I just want them. And have wanted them for YEARS.

I don't think I've ever wanted to give some company my money for so long as I have for Mongoose and the dropships.

I can attest to this man's want for air assets. I'm also surprised he didn't drive up to force me to play against him again... he's only an hour or two south of me. :D

And I'll also second his call for Vikings, Slingshots, Skyhooks, and TAC Fighters!

Hey Hiro!

I just saw that Mongoose is ebaying all of their prototypes and stuff. Maybe some of us could pool our money and buy the dropship prototypes and rights and get someone like Armorcast to start casting them.

Matt, you listening? Would that be something that could happen? Instead of going ebay on those dropships, could a SST collective buy the protos and rights and get them cast for the fan community?

Dude! That's an idea!!!

Hmm. Well, there are some issues here.

First off, we have at least one (painted) drop ship that we were indeed going to include in our spring clean.

Now, I was going to see if a small number of casts could be made, but I am not sure if that is entirely possible, for all sorts of technical reasons. So, don't hold your breath on that one, can't promise anything.

As for what you suggest. . . Yes, a collective could in theory buy the master(s) from us and get them cast. What they could not do is then sell them. So, everyone who wants one could contribute, have some made, and then get their drop ships. But they could not then resell them on a commercial basis (and there could be no end arounds to that, or you will end up talking to some very serious people at Sony).

We would certainly consider a proposal of this nature, but couldn't promise anything at this stage - we would have some pretty searching questions to ensure it would work.

Matt,

Sell them for profit (on a commercial bases), or sell period? If a collective got the molds, casts could be made and sold *at material cost*, correct?

In any case, I am serious in this aspect. I want dropships. What type of technical problem is preventing Mongoose themselves from having the ships cast (say, in resin), either in-house or via a third-party, and selling on a limited, pre-order basis? If there is something preventing you from doing that then I absolutely would want to be involved in a collective to buy the protos and have them produced for the fans.

Let me re-iterate. I want dropships. Either via Mongoose doing a limited pre-order production run, or by getting the protos from you and finding someone or some studio to cast them for us. I don't think I'd have any problems finding enough fans who want dropships.

Lastly, is the painted dropship destined for ebay also available as a proto? Which ship is it? Actually, what proto dropships exist? And Matt, if you'd like to discuss anything more privately such as the sale of the protos, feel free to PM me.

Thank you!

I think there'd be enough people on the forum who'd be willing to put down money to guarantee a dropship or four to make this work.

I'm in too... and Matt, what stocks of minis do you have left at Mongoose Towers? I could do with picking up some more figures before they disappear for good - I'd even drive down to get them if you don't do mail order any more.

No. A collective would get together, drop ships would be produced, and each person in the collective would get an agreed number of drop ships. Then production would cease.

Not saying this is going to work :) However, it is food for thought.

For SST, not much at all. The odd Exosuit and Plamsa Bug - you would be welcome to drop by though.

Don't underestimate my desire for drop ships. I have a hundred LAMI that need five Vikings to transport their fannies. I still have dreams about having my entire MI army land via fleet assets. And dogfighting TACs versus swarms of ripplers.

What do I need to do to get this ball rolling?
