alien books for Traveller

Banded Mongoose
Hiver/Kree book with dot map of area and a sector write up :)

A sector NOT done before :)

Then Vargr, Droyne etc....

As much as I like Traveller I think the Spinward Marches and Solomani Rim have been done in other editions. I think a sector not done before would be awesome.

I can not remember who posted this before, but the idea was given for there to be a main race but in the book it also covered a few of the minor races found in the area. I think this is a great idea. Some of the minor races have enough to be interesting but not enough for their own book.

Something to think about.

But over all I would like to see them all done.

Something I've been pondering - I'd like to see a Zho book too. Something that makes sense to me would be a Zhodani, Sword Worlders and Darrians book (non-Imperial humans of the Spinward Marches).

I started a survey on which races people would like to see first, and the concensus seemed to be a preference for the GURPS:Traveller model - one Major race and a couple of Minor races to each book (an idea I'm quite taken with as well). The problem is (as I see it), even though they are both minor races by most accepted definitions, both the Darrians and the Sword Worlders have been considered important enough to warrant their own books (by GDW and SJG respectively).

I'd like to propose a solution: since these two races are not only so Astrographically close, but also so historically and politically intertwined, why not devote one book to both of them (I'm thinking more like the DGP race supplements than the flip-over CT double adventures). Call it "The Minor Spinward States", or "Minor States of the Spinward Marches".

Anyone?

[tap-tap] Is this thing on?

Hey, I have it how about ONE FREAKIN BOOK with all the races in it! Why do we have to shell out hundreds of dollars to own 10-30 small books, each with a darn race in it? It gets to be tireing and all, trying to keep up with each and every game book. Its like the current stuff coming out, why do we need repeats of the old crap again (Mercenary, High guard) why wasnt this crap in the core book, oh and I have never seen any reason why the core book could not have had the ship creation charts extended to 1,000,000 ton craft and weapons, its poor marketing if you ask me, just another reason to pilfer my pockets for cash, when I would have paid for a core book that had all you needed to play with in the first place. Extra books I feel should be nothing more that Racial or Setting expansions, the Core book should have all the rules and etc..... IMO

I would not want to see this. It would be either so costly that I would not buy the book or it would be only an overview of the major races and I have that alreay in the core rule book. The whole point of th eAlien Books from the past was that they offered more in depth views to those races.

Hum. Let's say 10-30 100 page books are put to one book. Say hello to 1000-3000 page book. Can they even make bindings for that big books? I know Rober Jordan(RIP) threatened that if he needs to write last book of wheel of time big enough that publisher has to invent new bindings he will...

I would love to see a book of alien stats, old and new. Really would like to see something as comprehensive as Star Wars has. A lot of alien races, and ways to play them, create them and use them.

Respectively,

I would rather see a single book for each race major race, and maybe a single book for two minor races. I care less how many books you create, I will buy them all. The resource value that each of these books would bring would be well worth their cost. Now I am still awaiting my Pre-Order copy of Aslan to arrive still, but I bet I will be quite happy once it does.

I'd like one sector for each race detailed. Vargr first. :D

At least two sectors for each: one near an existing "anchor sector" (e.g., the Spinward Marches, for Vargr and Zhodani), one that's near another major race or the same major race at another location (e.g., for Vargr, use Mendan, Amdukan or Antares, or farther trailing to where the Julian Protectorate rubs up against the K'kree colonies that are trans-Lesser-Rift), and a possible third that's on the unexplored verge of the alien space, away from the Imperium (i.e., coreward for the Vargr, corward and/or spinward for the Zhos, spinward or rimward for the Aslan, rimward for the Solomani, et cetera).

Also, I'd like to see the following Imperial sectors with their own sourcebooks: Vland, Core, and Solomani Rim.

Solomani Rim can act as an anchor for future expansion - the Solomani Confederation is small enough that pretty much any Solomani sector that rubs up against either the Aslan or the Hivers is also going to be adjacent to the Rim. Additional sectors in the area that would provide opportunity for direct Imperial interface with Hivers and Aslan would be Hinterworlds and Reavers' Deep, both of which are close to the Solomani Rim.

Another good anchor would be Ley Sector or Glimmerdrift Reaches, for expansions with possible K'kree involvement to trailing.

And I'd really like to see some sectors where there is interaction between major races, WITHOUT Imperial presence - such as the Hiver/K'kree border, with its interesting history.

Well eventually they will do all the common races(I believe that is their plan anyway) and then move on hopefully to some less minor ones.
