Aircraft Carriers in Space

I've not played enough of MGT HG to really bet on outcome.

Nor have I.

Fighters seem, on the first face, to have a big advantage - the combination of a DM-4 to hit with barrages, and the ability to engage at adjacent range with much reduced accuracy penalties compared to a warship (especially with the Fast Strafing Run! order), and can get the same armour value as the warship with annoying ease.

On the other hand, Fighters need one Fire Control software per fighter, whilst a warship only needs one per barrage (which could be dozens or even hundreds of guns). Thats a lot of MCr wasted in duplication.

Lastly, the only thing which reduces a warship's firepower is criticals (which need a net barrage roll of 8+ or a spinal weapon hit). These aren't likely with popguns, no matter how many you fire, whilst fighter swarms will lose firepower with each casualty.

In all honesty, I've no feel for the likely winner.

TL12 (so limited to 100,000 dTon Heavy Cruisers at the top end, not that that's likely to be affordable), maybe 20 BCr (enough for 3 big Destroyers or small light Cruisers)? Standard 'Jump 3, fleet refuel, 120% battle strength crew' mandates, I guess.
