Aircraft and scout float planes

Are there rules for scout float planes such as those carried on Japanese and American cruisers and battleships?

Also, I have read that aircraft in this game are underpowered as compared to their real life capabilities when attacking ships. What are your comments? I am really considering picking up this game but want to learn a bit more about it first.

I would use the rules for spotting aircraft... all scout planes are pretty generic. some just have a longer range than others!

Thanks. Second part of question: I have heard that some players are using a house rule for triple aircraft damage so that aircraft pack more of a punch closer to true life capabilities - any comments?

I beleive the "punch" may be amended in the supplement

it has been said that aircraft rules are being reviewed in the supplement (out november i think?). In the meantime, it has been suggested that tripling either the number of flights or their fighting power can be used if you feel the rules don't meet your requirements. I personally go at it slightly differently, double the number of flights and half ship AA attack dice.
There are a number of house rules to augment/replace rules in VaS floating about. find a post by DM and follow the link to his website, he has some good ideas written down there.
I guess at the end of the day, if you and your opponent(s) think that there is something wrong with the rules and you can all agree a way to refine them to make the game run better, go for it!

Personally I would reccomend picking up these rules. I find them a set of fast play rules that actually give a fast play game, and the lack of detail does not (so far) leave me raging about impossibilities happening (well, maybe except for when the dice go bad!).

Thanks for the comments. I will be picking this game up soon and using 1:6000 Hallmark miniatures for the scale. Looking forward to putting some battleship main gun rounds down-range!
