Air/Raft spaces

Banded Mongoose
Looking at the air/raft in the Vehicle Handbook I tried to recreate it to make sure I was getting the sequences correct. The problem I cam up with is I assume the air/raft has 8 spaces but have only been able to fill 7, Driver and 5 passengers 6 spaces and cargo (250kg) 1 space. Does anyone know what the final space was used for or if it is another error?

Keep in mind the rules there are loose. It's even mentioned in the book - you make your vehicle, but if you feel something needs a tweak, which is not mentioned in the rules - you simply do it.

However, I am not sure if the air raft is tweaked. Let me check it out!

Edit: well, you can assume the pilot's seat takes 2 spaces, to achieve a better comfort.

There does seem to be an error with the Navigation System. The basic navigation system lists a DM of +1 but the vehicle description has no DM listed for navigation.

Not to discourage you, but you will find other inconsistencies in the example vehicles. Perhaps some are intentional.

If you increase the armour to 6 which matched the version in the first editions supplement 5/6 the space gets swallowed up while the price still remains in the range of that given. Though it can still carry a couple more people than the earlier version.

An alternative would be to give the driver 2 spaces since he has controls in front of him restricting space more.

That’s weird, I could have sworn that the air/raft has satellite uplink, but apparently it doesn’t...

The final slot could be forgotten, left as upgradeable space, or used to give the passengers slightly more room...

The good news is that an empty slot means it’s possible to build a vacuum/proof version without sacrificing any passenger seats, since life support costs one slot :)

Sounds promising, an enclosed version would be more useful. I just keep picturing the brave adventurers out in this having forgotten the soft top/canvas when it pelts down with rain.(Perhaps that is where the empty space went, a folded up canvas or similar roof and sides?)

Since we seem to have a free space available, all you gotta do is add 160,000 credits to the cost and voila! Your air/raft is now vacuum protected and can maintain life support for four days!

Remember that there’s no airlock, so once you open the door you de-pressurize the interior!

(Adding an airlock would cost you 2 spaces and 2,000 credits)

Haha, not for four days straight, no! But what it means in practice is that you can use the air/raft for 96 hours before you need to replace filters and all that :)

I remember an old cartoon which showed the Kinunir racing for a starport. The caption went along the lines of an Imminent Rule Change. :D

Thinking about it, more spaces = more hull points.
At the same time I don't think it's necessary to fill ALL available spaces with something.

But more space for the driver makes most sense.

Vacuum pack the luggage and put on a space suit for that uplifting feeling.

There are probably a wide range of models and options available, besides the generic ones.

Rollbars would have seemed the obvious ones. And whatever they put on the bottom in case of crashes.
