Age of Treason: The Iron Companion

Simulacrum

Mongoose
Dear Treasoners,

For those interested in what the next AoT book will be about:

I just posted the following info about progress on the next AoT book over on the BRP boards in response to a question, and it really belongs here - so here it is:

I'd like to keep it large format, but for a companion book probably soft cover (all to be discussed with Mongoose) - something over 100 pages. Current content at draft:

1) Treasonous Thoughts - describes some of the key treasonous, nefarious (or not, depending on your point of view) or just odd plots to subvert the empire that Adventurers can get caught up in
2) Goods, Commerce and Money - money and coinage, cost of living, how to advance your SOC, price lists and descriptions for common items (including arms and armour), trade goods, services (including magical ones), land, transport etc
3) Agriculture and Earth Magic - Why agriculture is at the heart of - well, most things - new spells, info and reasons why its relevant to adventurers
4) Adventuring on the Frontiers - three story outlines as adventure hooks, plus stats and info (e.g. Sheng spirit Magic) to help kick off developing a campaign in these wild and dangerous regions
5) "Niadra's Scriptorium" - a short scenario set in Zarina that will set the Adventurers off on the road to Sorandib
6) Sorandib section - the meaty part of the book - a city guide and adventure pack comprising cult/organisation details for The Artificers, Beggars and several others; city details, maps, plans of key locations/buildings, rules for Artifice, personalities, and at least one fully detailed scenario, "Twilight's Assassins"...

This not exhaustive, but it's what is drafted right now. Aiming for latter part of Q1 next year. The gap between then and now apart from the production requirements of illustration, editing, layout and print is deciding what else to pack in there.

In the meantime I will be posting a free pdf scenario to slot in to the adventure thread in the main book to coincide with the availability of the Legend rules. Should be up later this week. I'll post a thread here when it goes up.

I've said this already on another thread but I really found the AoT book excellent and I am looking forward to the next installment.

My 2c:
Mechanically, the commerce and money aspect is interesting. Having a SOC stat means the players would want to know what it means in terms of worldly power and how to go about improving it.

On the other hand, I have never had my (Glorantha) PCs interested in worshipping a fertility deity or casting Bless Crops so I wonder how much play the agriculture section will get. That may say more about my players than the system or setting however...

Also very interested in Sorandib and what you dream up for Artifice.

Woot! That sounds great and obviously I'm really looking forward to it. I regret to still being swamped under work and so have not read any more of AoT since Sept. but soon the veil will be raised and I'll jump back in. If you need any help (editing/proofing) in Dec., please let me know.

Sounds great!

So far been really impressed with the book and looking forwards to reading more about the world. The city sections and treasonous thoughts sounds particularly useful. And while I'm tempted to agree about agricultural cults being less interesting than certain other gods I guess it depends on the take on them. A green man/horned god figure is certainly interesting as is a witchy/fertility/corn one. Plants seasons and death all tie into that sort of stuff which make for more interesting takes than just 'I worship the fields'.... :)

As I said on brpcentral, this setting looks absolutely great! I hope this line gets plenty of support (and please please make supplements hard covers!)

Very pleased to see AoT supplement on rails, even if I prefer specialized supplements rather catch-all ones. It is way simpler to find information.

Treasonous Thoughts will be a must-read !

As others said, such an excellent world needs hard cover books. For they may be used for a long time !
