After a small (6 month) hiatus, painting 1/3000 ships again

Due to no players locally it kind of slumped down and I lost interest.

Now, interest rekindled, I just paint for fun and prosperity as I doubt I will be playing a game against anybody else but me anytime soon. It's a mix of modern and WW2 though, so not everything will appeal to everyone.

Later this week more North Koreans, a Aruban Coats Guard Tug and someting that has a use in VAS, a Type IXB.

Almost out of models now, but ordered up even more merchants (including a few CAM ships) and a motherload of torpedoboats and destroyers. Now if I could only kickstart my need to paint my late war IJN fleet and/or find the want to paint up other bigger warships.... oh well.

Hey there very nice work, i love your wrecked/sunked markers, I might have to steal the idea :D

Liking the markers too - markers for various things really help a game along.
Anyone done any nice torpedo markers??

Si

I like the wreck markers as well, one of the smaller tankers looks almost like a submerged/periscope-depth submarine.. like that idea

Rattlehead sells (space) torpedoes that could be easily adapted, but since VaS doesn't have "seeking" weapons in the way games like Federation Commander do.. when would you use them?

You need to mark torpedoes fired because they have to wait til shootings done before you resolve them.
I guess you could write it down, but I like the markers.
I have water plume markers and they are ace to who who's being targeted.
I have smoke markers for fires - just cotton wool tufts.
Working on little wake markers to indicate ships running at Flank speed too.

Interesting, I'll look into that. But at the moment all I'm building are new shell splashes as my old ones have all gone rusty (no sure what went wront there, but this time I will not use pins again) and a few Harpoons and Exocets....not really VaS material :D

Torpedo markers should not be very hard to do though.

ooooh - I'd love to be able to use VaS as a core to do Falklands and 80's cold war stuff...

Any more info?

Its the "other thing" I was working on that I mentioned in the "after oob " thread elsewhere. Currently a collection of ideas but not gelling yet. I'm off on a work trip soon so I may get some quiet time to think about it more. Hopefullly it will work as well as my ironclad variant (which seems to be rather popular judging by the emails I've been receiving!)

Right, enough chit chat (though I am happy with the remark about a modern version of VaS at a later date. Hope it won't come with all dominant big ships, I like my ants snapping at big ships ankles), time for some more pics.

A Osa to Komar conversion:

And a Dutch Antilles Coast Guard vessel (I'm really, really proud of the proper colours on her side 8) )

And I did run out of room while decalling her name, I had testfitted it before and it worked. Today was not a good decalday (had to redo one of the Komars and the entire sub  )

And as a final treat, to stay in the WW2 theme for our VaS players
N3603TypeIXc.jpg

Lifted the splintercamo off a type VIIc, and thought about adding the correct symbol on the side of the conning tower., basically just a single S rune, but decided against that as it would clash with the splinter camo and would just l;ook like some peeled paint.

Might turn the other two into a Type IXc/40 and/or the Mine version. And add the correct 37mm to both, bit miffed it's missing it. Same goes for Navwars Type VIIc too, no deckgun

I'm really hopen my small order from MY miniatures drops into the box tomorrow, as I only have some I-400's and a couple of cargoships to do and I don't feel like em. Maybe cut some styrene and build me some more NK fishing vessels, or mount me those Harpoons and Exocets I have in 1/300 scale.

Enjoy.

At the moment I'm using I-94 decals exclusively, most meant for my 1/300 and 1/72 models, and a bit adapted.

Most used pack is LB-100 (letter black) which gives you a lot of letters (each pack is 2 sheets) and comes in white, red and yellow as well. Most of the rest is handpainted with the exception of the German flag with the swastika and the small star in the North Korean Flag.

Americans and Japanese have the decals ready as well, but I will be ordering English Union Jacks and Autralian flags soon from another company, Fighting Pirhana (combined with a Battletech order). May not go well with the purists (as the jack isn't the proper flag) but that makes sure everyone at least recognizes it.

Not sure if this is allowed, but go here > http://www.i-94enterprises.com/ and browse around, I'd say.

Any questions, feel free to PM.
