Adding Sanity Rules

So as I sell my group on the RQII/Legend ruleset, I have been pondering adding sanity rules for a dark fantasy game. I am looking at CoC, which would be the easiest to port over, or convert Warhammer's version over. At any rate, it would be cool to see the official relaunch of the rules (as Legend) to have optional sanity rules included.

MRQII does have a Sanity system. It is towards the back of the Necromantic Arts book. Why don't you have a look at that first then decide if you want to port in BRP's?

Actually I don't know what the BRP one is like but the Necromantic Arts one is not that good.

I liked the CoC one of slowly building up...or loss of Sanity points...

The BRP & CoC will be very similar, if not identical (based on the same system). Up to individual preference I guess, though I don't mind the MRQ rules.

WFRPs system is ridicolously easy to port over.

Just give sanity points on failed persistence rolls, and require persistence rolls whenever you think the adventurers see something that would question their sanity.

Would make persistence a better stat though, but I find it fair, because compared to Resilience it is a little worse (fewer spells resisted by it, resilience also governs natural healing).

Things that could force those persistence rolls:
Suffering a Critical hit.
Seeing an undead for the first time.
Killing a human being.
Death of a loved one.
Etc.

There was an article on sanity in S&P for RQI that worked brilliantly, it would be easy to adapt to RQII.

Now I have more time to post I've found the S&P rules I was on about.

They are in S&P 61 page 37 onwards.

They handle sanity in a very convincing way that allows for mild to major phobias and the like. Very easy to use and easy to roleplay. I use it in conjunction with the fear rules in Necromantic Arts.
