Actual Play:- The Lucky game

Evil_Trevor

Mongoose
From a Tabletop game I'm runing at my local RPG Club

Mandating that all the characters are Corinthian Soldiers and of only level 2, with no multiclassing either.

I have three players in the game, this is an introduction and catch-up post that I'll update as the game unfolds over the next six weeks

Week 1

The soldiers are part of an army that has successfully taken a nearby city they are not part of the regular force, just skirmishers peasents pressed into service. Two males and a female.

Following a night of carousing they awake to find they have been selected to escort some prisonners back to their city Cuja. Setting off they walk up the road for aa day, reaching a small farm before nightfall and persaude the farmer to allow them to stay in the barn. Later that night the farmer and some of his workers attempt to free the prisoners, attacking with various farm implements giving the group a bit of a fight. This isn't a maor threat to the party and they recapture the prisoners, hurting one in the process.

On the following day they take a small wagon and head off up the road, by late afternoon they realise they are bieng followed and decide, under cover over of darkness, to leave the road and move cross country. Leaving the wagon and moving on foot they head out into some rocky foothills and make slow progress. As darkness falls they select a campsite and make a basic camp. Twice during the night they see a strangeglow over the prisoners. As the dawn breaks they catch sight of a man heading toward camp, rousing the two not on watch they are prepared when two soliders run in to camp and a fight ensues, which they win.

Week two

Travelling on through the day they approach the end of the foothills and catch sight of a group of mounted men, who ride away. They continue on and pass fromthe hills into a flat and heavily overgrown plain which they know will lead to thier city late tomorrow. In the last few hours of the night the man on watch hears someone approaching, moving out and round he finds a group of men creaping slowly through the grass toward the camp.

He says "I'll creep up behind one of the figures" so I ask for a move silently roll and he gets a 13! So I roll the guys 'listen' and get an 11! then he says "Does he count as a prone target, since he's creaping on his stomach through the grass?" well I guess he does.. Whack one enemy down.

The rest (5) of the approching force leap to their feet and one the group leader shouts 2You get the prisoners, I'll take care of this one"

The player then shouts "INCOMING" to the rest of the party fort save dc 15 to stay asleap, no both wake up and in time to get weapons.

So one fight is a level four soldier (my group leader) against a scond level soldier (player with good stats) and I have four level three's up against two level twos (and a goatherder and four prisoners) so we roll the fight through and the players don't do too well...

One player character dies and uses a fatepoint to be 'left for dead'
the remaining two are both on 4 hit points and the enemies have untied the prisoners who have to be recaptured more by intimidation than force. The goatherder has done a runner. Only because one of the players decided to double check the player who had went down did we manage to establish that she wasn't dead and could be saved otherwise the outlook would have been grim.

So it has reached the end of the night and it's time to tidy up and go home, another club member who has played Conan before pops accross and asks Hows it going?

Player (one whos character didn't die) replies "We've been lucky"

I wonder how the other games he's been in have gone......
