ACTA: Starfleet Questions

I thinkm the initial release will be the usual suspects

So Federation, Klingon, Romulan plus maybe Gorn, Kzinti and few others :)

Based off of ADBs comments ACTA:SF#1 Will include the ships found in the first four Federation Commander Products. That list would probably look like this. 79 units and 4 Monsters. The Break down would be:
18 Federation Ships
10 Klingon Ships
15 Romulan Ships
11 Kziniti Ships
9 Gorn Ships
3 Orions
3 Tholians
10 General Units (Bases and Transports)

Bear in mind Mongoose may add a subtract ships from that list.

Edit: my count was low.

Having noted the (most welcome) release scedule for the next six months, I note that the Starfleet releases appear to all be boxed sets. Will Mongoose be selling starships individually at all?

Also, will Mongoose be releasing an equivalent of box 91, the Franz Joseph ships?

If you think back to when the previous incarnations of ACTA came out - the first ships released were in fleet boxes, with the individual ships being released a few months afterwards (and even then, I think that some of the individual ships didn't appear on the release schedule until the month before).

Cap: They're coming - ADB wouldn't have it any other way and neither would the players, I suspect... word is (check the ACTA: NA forum - there's a couple of threads there) that they're bringing out the same boxed sets as Federation Commander, just in the new resin and scale.n Some of the initial prototype computer models are shown off in there too...

Captian Martin, The Mirak are the Kzintis, I don't know the story behind why the computer game changed the Kzin to Mirak, but they are the same race.

IIRC, they were changed to the Mirak because of a licensing issue with Larry Niven (creator of the Kzinti)... although I could be wrong.

Are the ships for ACTA: Starfleet going to look different? By that I mean will the Romulan ships look better?

JRoss, pictures are available on ADB's page on Facebook, its BBS, and Federation Commander Forum. links to these can be found in the ACTA topic here. (I'd repost them, but my baby Xoom doesn't do copying well. :( )

I was hoping for some newer gen looking ships, not the 60s round pod versions for the Federation.

But I suppose the ships are just a part of it.

Are there plans to bring in the newer styled ship designs or is that a licensing issue? (Stuff like the NCC-2000 and the Yamato?)

captmartin, it is a licensing issue. We don't have the rights to the movies and later series. Now, when we get to the empires that are uniquely SFU, then there's more wiggle room.

scoutdad, thanks!

Thank you Jean and Scoutdad for the info. I should have been clearer, though. I meant to ask whether or not the Romulan Hawk-type ships will look the same as in Starfleet Battles or not. It's nothing against the game itself; I just find the look of them so jarringly different from the classic-style Romulan ships that I cannot imagine the Hawks being a natural evolution from previous Romulan designs, even considering Klingon influence.

So I guess I'm wondering if we'll see newer, more contemporary-looking ship designs. Of course, I'm not asking about D'Deridex ships from TNG, just updates of the SB ships.

JRoss, I don't know what Mongoose and SVC will come up with! :)

However, I suggest we move this conversation to the ACTA: SF thread in the ACTA topics as others may be interested.

Jean

JRoss:

Does this look any better?

(I should probably note that in this setting, it's Star Fleet, not Starfleet. The first indicates the organization as it exists in the SFU, based on how it was written in the old Technical Manual; the second refers to its counterpart in the Paramount/CBS Franchise.)
