(ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Borak

cool cover, cool ships they would look good as 2500 minis.
I'd agree, if only because before we see any Starline 2500 "lost empires", Mongoose would need to release the Hydrans, Lyrans, Neo-Tholians, ISC and Andromedans.

It's on the ADB storefront now, and will ship to online orders from the 30th.

Historically, the Carnivons were destroyed by the Kzintis and Lyrans, while the Paravians were accidentally made extinct by the Gorns. What if they had survived to the General War?

This module includes 120 SSDs defining the ships they would have built, plus the rules for their advanced weapons and the battles they would have fought.

For the Carnivons, we provide two alternate histories based on actual events. The Carnivons almost united until the leader was assassinated. Two of their hordes were destroyed on the edge of the WYN cluster after considering a suicide dive into its radioactive walls. Either would have resulted in a real and very powerful Carnivon Empire that would have been unwilling to ally with either feline empire.

Paravian history also depends on a single leader, Marengo Firecloud Wildfeather, who (historically) tried to convince the other wing lords to stop raiding and start building colonies. Had he succeeded, the Paravians would have built an empire at the expense of the Gorns and ISC, and the ISC would never have become the peacemakers they historically were. While Marengo's campaign failed, he did build the remote colony of Wingatha, where those Paravians who survived the Gorn campaign gathered to decide their future. They could have built a world there and returned to raiding, but instead they headed for the Omega Sector.

Includes 122-page rulebook, 138-page SSD book, 280 die-cut counters.

If anyone wants to hear more about what Module C6 has to offer, the most recent Star Fleet Universe On Call podcast (Episode 264, 09/26/2013) features a call-in by Steve Cole, Steve Petrick, and Jean Sexton.

When they aren't talking about the pranks the Steves keep pulling on Jean over in Amarillo, that is...

A preview file for SFB Module C6 has gone up on DriveThruRPG, including sample SSDs (a war cruiser apiece) for both the Paravians and Carnivons.

For those who may have seen the earlier "raiding" Paravians done for Captain's Log #28, these Paravians have been altered significantly, as these ships are intended for line combat rather than work as raiding ships. (Which ought to make things easier in a future ACtA:SF conversion, perhaps.)

EDIT: It's up on e23 now, too.

I think the context of that quote was more to say that if/when such a conversion is done for FC, SVC will do the rules portion himself, rather than open the floor to submissions.

(For example, the Early Years versions of the Carnivon and Paravian weapons offered in playtest form in Captain's Log #39 Supplemental were converted from SFB Module Y1 by Mike West, while I was permitted to work on the Omega conversion project from SFB to FC. But ADB retains the prerogative to decide which empires or settings they wish to do the ground work for in-house.)

According to the word from the recent podcast, it may not be until the New Year before a decision is made on what will be the next FC module. Perhaps the interest in C6, however it turns out, might be a factor in seeing if these Carnivons and Paravians will be considered for such a project.

Actually, the sample CWs for both C6 empires show some interesting differences.

In the Paravian case, their ship has a very strong front shield, which is needed in order for it to fire its forward-arc QWTs out of. (It seems that the quantum wave torpedo doesn't get a swivel mount refit, so keeping the front shield alive will be a must.) If the Klingon front shield rule is still a part of ACtA:SF by then, perhaps it might be useful here?

Also, the Paravian CW has a healthy set of boarding parties, and (in SFB) retains the ability to land on planets.

As for the Carnivon CW, it has more hull boxes to pad itself out, and more secondary weapons, but a weaker phaser suite and a lower Marine count.

Ironically, in this case, it is the "plasma-esque" ship that can fire every turn, while the "disruptor/drone-esque" ship cannot; the reverse of the situation between, say, the Klingons and Romulans.

well if what little I know of sales for C6 it appears to be selling well. either way I look forward to this. in the mean time I can not wait for my copy to arrive on Friday.

A new delivery showed up for me today!

While the rules for the Paravians and Carnivons (as they would have been in the "modern" Alpha Octant) for SFB are in Module C6, CL48 comes with prototype rules for both empires in Federation Commander, as well as a pair of sample Ship Cards for each. CL48 also has a Paravian preview for Federation and Empire, if one wishes to experiment with the "Mapsheet P' alternate setup.

Of course, even with version 1.2 inbound, it may be quite a while before either of these "lost empires" are gotten around to in ACtA:SF (or in Starline 2***). But the material is there in other game systems to see what they are about, for those so minded.
