[ACTA:SF] alright, let's hear about your best or worst luck.

Since it's so slow around here lately: I was inspired by an event that happened Saturday, and wanted to see if any of you can top the luck I had.

Firing against a previously lightly damaged Gorn CM at long range with 4 standard photons. I normally whiff rolls like that, but not this time. Got one lousy photon hit, but it was a roll of a "6" and penetrated his shields. I said oh, crud, you watch it'll be bulkhead hits...

Damage rolls were 4 "6"'s, yielding 4 level 2 criticals (gotta love the Devastating trait). Rolled 2 Dilithium and 2 Shield crits. Instant level 4 crits on both, and the extra damage took the CM right on into crippled-land and took it out of the fight for the rest of the game.

Whatcha got? :D

Played a game (Gorn v Fed) in which a Fed group of 3 (could have been 4) Cruiser sized, '4 Photon', ships targetted a fresh Gorn Dreadnought (no damage, fully shields).

Result, Dead Dreadnought - it actually exploded from internal damage BEFORE it's shield went down. (and i was playing Gorn :( )

Me, I had a Klingon opponent mass all is ship really close to one of my ship, a Kirov he really wanted to take out. So he moved into overload disrupter range fired at my ship which had done bost shield (16pts) on top of is 24 shield left , did barely inflicted damage on hit. then I looked at the state of is C7 I poured ALL my firepower ont this ship, both the Kirov and Constitution, and I got it soo low in negative hit point when it blew up it killed both is D7 (had low shield medium damage) and is F5 really just went mint... Kablouey, and the Kirov flew away with no shield and some internal damage.

Moral of the story, big ship that goes Kablouey get more stuff killed then simply firing at everything

My problem is that I always (and I mean _always_) overcook things when I move in close with overloaded torps or a decent lot of plasma. Plasma especially - against a typical cruiser, you do not need to unload every plasma weapon a Gorn normally carries.

The trouble is, there is always a voice in my head saying 'it is the only way to be sure...'

Our very first battle, my daughter killed my C7, which had not even been hit before hand, with a single photon fired from a POL.

4x 6s rolled to hit.
3x 6s rolled for location
3x dilithium chamber hits at x2 thanks to devastating.
Ship went BBBBBOOOOOOM

But no one heard it in space.

I win... or lose which ever way you look at it.

A couple of weeks ago in our November game we had a War Eagle and a King Eagle uncloak on a Kzinti Medium at 6". The King Eagle stripped the shields and the War Eagle fired its' one Plasma R with 7 dice and rolling 6 sixes. Two two level crew hits, two two level Dilitium and two two level Shield hits.

Everyone talking about good rolls, how about bad ones.

Aha. My fully armed Mighty Gorn Battlecruiser has caught up to your puny and helpless BCH and you just used the last of your phasers on my HDDs plasmas. Let me see, you have 23 shields left and I need to do 36 Hull to crush you, so I'll fire both S torps and both F torps plus some phasers.

Eat death Federation scum.........

Erm 19 plasma damage, from 12 Dice

Some days the Gods of the Universe just mess with my Dice :(

I was playing the 'Towering Inferno' scenario earlier tonight against a friend and on turn twelve he got one last Orion LR in and I rolled for my oCL to arrive in the same corner. When I realized I would be able to get the cruiser within 6" of his LR my special action was "Overload Weapons!".

After rolling two 5s for my photons' AD and hitting with 6x Ph-1, 2x Ph-3, and the drone he blinked, sat up, and asked me 'You just did -how much- damage to my LR?!?'. A couple of bulkhead hits prevented me from blowing up his LR in one volley

I hear that voice at times as well. Blew up a Gorn BCH at point blank range with a Fed BCH with overloaded Photons. The 4 drones fired at the end of the weapons sequence were gratuitous overkill. My opponent said maybe you shouldn't have fired those drones.

Trouble is, I subscribe to the "there is no overkill, there is only Open Fire and I need to reload" theory... which cost me damage I took needlessly.

Out first ever game lasted 2 minutes, I fired 4 shots from max range in turn 1, scored a set of penetrating hits that went critical and all hit the delithium chamber. The ship blew up and damaged the rest of the fleet. The other guy conceded.

OK we did the shooting wrong - being our first game. It was disrupters and we had the multihit 2 wrong - so the 6 for crits and 3 for delithium were each doubled up wrongly. But still 3*6s to penetrate followed by 3*6s to crit and 3*delithium was amazing.
