ACTA RIP....

Well guys, its been a great game but as of the 31st March Mongoose are no longer producing any B5 Miniatures....
That means that whatever is "out there" right now is pretty much the end of the line. Bummer.

Um.... I'm sorry, but, WHAT?!?

No offence WC but if this is really true dont you think it might have been better to let Mongoose break this one themselves? And the fact that they havent despite ACTA supposedly doing well still leaves me wondering if this is just a case of crossed lines?

I can't believe that. Makes no sense for Mongoose to drop ACtA at this point. After Armageddon, maybe, but now? Madness.

I'll believe this when I hear from Mongoose directly.

They have broken it themselves... we´ve been communicated with in a very direct and forthright manner, as have a number of other folks that I´ve spoken with this morning - the cat is well and truly out of the bag and halfway down the street.
We have an email straight from Alex explaining the reasons, etc why but at no point does he say that they´ll be making an "official" announcement themselves, ask us not to discuss it / announce it, etc - he just tells us what they´re doing and why.
I´ve found Alex to be very straight and forthright in my dealings with him, if they´re not producing any more metal you can bet that there is a very sound financial / business type reason at the heart of it.
Knowing and understanding that doesn´t make me any happier about losing 1 of my favourite games though....

In fairness to Wingy, a lot of the time Mongoose don't announce things as quickly.

It is certainly a shame, and would be good to hear from Matt. Though I "think" alex is co-owner of the company or something, so he's not liable to send out crossed messages

Sounds like BS to me. ACTA is doing well , not enough minis to meet demand for the game, redesigning Hyperion minis. I cannot see Mongoose as a company dropping a good, popular minis game which makes them money. It does not make good business sense.

Do you mean that Mongoose have out sourced the mini production?

Guys, trust me on this - the email is very very clear and to the point. I won´t be listing it all here as it contains some other trader information but I know that there are 1 or 2 other posters on here have received the same email and seen it. The wording is crystal clear and put in a positive manner;

12th February 2008
Dear Retailer Partners,

After a very successful period of producing miniatures for our award winning game A Call to Arms Mongoose Publishing is announcing today that we will cease production of this range of models with effect from March 31st 2008.

The increasing costs associated with this range means that the production of miniatures is no longer commercially viable at this time.

- Lifted from the email, is that clear enough?
I can only hope that they do "outsource" at some stage or do something that enables the production of the line to resume or alter in some way. I love playing the game, selling the game makes me money which I also love but Mongoose are, at this time, not going to be making any more spaceships....
You never know, it may all be a big hoax, somebody may have broken into Alex´PC and sent out a hoax email to all the suppliers, traders, etc....

I've also heard about this today, and had a good conversation with Matt on the phone.

It is true.

Matt told me that there will be an announcement out later today.

Holy Crap this was unexpected!

Why are they doing this when it is their one truly successful game!?
BFEvo and SST are both currently dead but ACTA is strong isn't it!? :?

very sad news but something that is not really a huge surprise given the ongong problems with the castings? At least Hiff got his mothership!

I also wonder if the problems with both the book production and the Bat Evo pre paints also contributed to the rexamination of the compnay but I am in no postion to know - lets see what MGP says.

it does change the future of ACTA to a certain extent as their will be no new ship models (or ones for those without them)

Hopefully it will mean a new counter set which is the only vey small silver linning I can see? perhaps a new set in conjunction with any new book - be a nice combination.

well with the cancelling of 40K RPG and now this - not a good month!

If Mongoose really have totally binned ACtA they'll piss off a lot of people. I shudder to imagine the knock-on effects to their other products, but I can't see much in the way of customer loyalty after a move like that...

Remember folks though it says mini production will stop, not game development. So the game itself is kinda hanging in there. Just sounds like Mini's are becoming too expensive to make. We will just have to rely on those great scratchbuilders making us all ships!

personally, as much of a pain at it is, it might be for the good, Mongoose always seemed to have one to many fingers in pies, this way they can consolidate and make even better what they keep.

I don't really see how the game can continue without minis being produced. What are they going to put for photos of the 3rd edition ships, pictures of the counters?!

Can see a lot of minis being ordered and then putting on ebay. Was hoping to get another fleet mid - late this year. Have to bring my plans forward.

Hopefully this means that the 2E counter set will be released quickly.

Hopefully they can get a 3rd party to do the minis for them (praying that this happens).

"So we are doing very well, and we are cutting our losses"

CGI images, sketches, one of models, who knows.
Vas works without a dedicated mongoose mini production.

I wonder could this help at all by making certain un official makers - official makers?

hopeful emote time...............

Well also means better hammer my credit card (again!) and get more stuff now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I think many on here have noticed the ongoing problems with the figure production process.....................so lets hope there is a good future for ACTA rules - Victory at Sea has no official models .

Counters and unoffical models - use other peoples ships - there is some light at the end of tunnel!
