No, it's been cleared up in the Fed Drone thread that a Phaser bank is EITHER used offensively OR defensively. The difference, as i understand it, is that when used defensively, you develop a 'pool of die' that can be used thoughtout the turn to counter seeking weapons. When used offensively, it's all die at once, with no 'carry-over'.

Aas written, the C8 can only defend itself or Attack another - so a weakness shows.

Ahh... I read through that but thought that it was only referring to seeking weapons used defensively, but now that I read through it more I see where you are coming from.

Doesn't the C8 still have anti-drone and also be able to use it's drones to defend against other drones and also have some mediocre P2's? Don't know about 'weakness'.

Anti Drone 1, and no forward facing Ph-2 (1 each P/A and S/A) or PH-3 (A), so no frontal cover other than anti-drone. A frontal assualt would mean using PH-1's to rteduce drone barrage - at which it would be very effective.

The odds of a single, non overloaded, Photon shot hitting a C8 and disabling it's forward Ph-1 is .5291%(1/189), that is a SINGLE Photon Torpedo (any ships carrying them have more than one, with the exception of the 85pt Police Cutter) may disable it's ENTIRE secondary armament!(the C8 is also the only ship with more than 6 attack dice on a weapon system that's not a Plasma Torpedo, and the 7AD Plasma's are all on ships with at least 7 weapons, all of which have have multiple F facing Phaser weapons. The C8 is also the only ship with more than 4AD in a single Phaser weapon system...)

So again, the C8 is more fragile than other Dreads, Battle Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers, and even most Light Cruisers.

hermitbob, the thing that most people seem guilt of coming to ACTASF from SFB or FC is they look at ACTA as a light ruleset to play SFB with. In reality what they should be thinking is that ACTA is a advanced combat system for Federation and Empire type campaigns. As such some ships lose some of the aspects they had in SFB/FC and some actually may come in a little better in the new system than they have been.

The E4 and F5 actually function fairly closer to true with the arcs listed as they are now because it still encoutages the klingon play to fight for the oblique firing arcs so he can bring all of his phaser to bear while keeping his heavy front shiled facing the enemy.

The D6 was, as far as I am concerened, brought into FC wrong. The D6K which is the ship that shhould have come into FC was down gunned to make it tatically different from a D7. So the real argument you should be making is restoring the D6s phaser 1s in FC not trying to downgun D6K in ACTASF.

As far as the D5,D5W, and C7 yes the phaser groups are not a exact match to SFB or FC but you have to remember that damage to wepons is handled differently in ACTASF as well and that the arcs presented present are a fairly realistic approach to that damage as it would be seen on a fleet scale.

As far as the C8, I agree putting all of its phaser into one basket has gone badly for the C8 in both games I played. And yes a Frigate did indeed take out all the C8s weapons in one volley thanks to a very lucky dakmage roll in one game and the C8 proceeded to die a slow death to drones.
