In Convoy Duty, because it mandates you move your Freighters in the end phase, does that mean they can't use Special Actions? This came up in a recent game, where both players disputed it.
They are moved in the end phase, but their movement follows the standard movement rules (must move half their speed, can turn after that, follow the normal turning rules etc). So I don't see why they can't perform Special Actions. They are not adrift, after all.
Question that came up in a convoy duty game yesterday, if Freighters (or other Civilian vessels) can take SAs do they have a crew score of 4 (Military, default crew quality) or 2 (Civilian)?
Although most ships outside of campaigns are CQ 4 it does say that CQ 2 on the random CQ table is rated as civilian. Really depends on your group's preference I suppose, doesn't seem to be anything in the rules that require civilian ships to use the lower score (although I prefer to use CQ2 for them myself)
As for SAs, I only tend to let civilians use automatic success SAs. Using CQ2 they can rarely manage a lot of them anyway and as the SAs would almost all start and finish in the end phase it's only really movement and All Hands On Deck SAs that would be of use anyway, regardless of CQ scores.
