ACTA Cards, what news? (and how's 2nd ed?)

Mongoose
hi,

not been about here for a little while as me and the missus have had a wee boy so time has been a little sparse.

i'll opologise if this has been discussed before but what the deal with the cards? as a Narn player can i expect to see these anytime soon? and what is the format? are they like the cards you get with warmachine or are they bigger?

also i see 2nd ed is up for sale on the Mongoose site, any major changes to the game that i'd have to run out and buy it for?

thanks in advance,

Blu_

There is an article in this month S&P Wargamer explaining the differences.

Cards? If you mean Chernobyl's ship record cards then they are entirely a fan-created thing containing the stats and a damage track for easy record-keeping during the game. I'm sure he'll be updating them to 2nd edition when he can find the time :)

time...yes...

Actually what I'm doing right now is building the new web pages that will eventually contain the new cards. I'm going to be adding "sound bites" for each race, and Darknight is going to help me with some art. I'm still looking for pictures of ships for several races though, if you have some good looking minis let me know. Abbai is definately missing...
Also, does anyone know how to trigger two events off a hyperlink click?
I'm trying to do something a little complicated with the new pages and may need some help. if you think you can offer advice, send me a PM...

Hey Chern, I could take a few pics of my Abbai and send them to you, if you want - I have painted Bimith, Shyarie, Lakara and Milani. Which perspective do you prefer? From the top, the side, or from an angle?

above, from a front corner works best I think - but take what you can, and I'll see what I can best use. Thanks!!

Define an OnClick event for the link and have it run a bit of javascript that executes everything you need. So sort of like this

At the top of the page you have

Code:
< script >

Function doStuff()
{
   doFirstThing();
   doSecondThing();
}
< /script >

then in your page you have something like this

Code:
< a onClick="dostuff()" > Click here to do stuff < /a>

For a more concrete example you can take a look at the source of the shipviewer pages and see how I went about handling things like the hangars, multiple fire modes and damage bubble direction. they all basically follow the same pattern.

Thanks for the tip Obsidian. I did some research prior to your post earlier today and found a site that tells me pretty much exactly how to write the script

update:

yay! I got it to work the way I need. whoo hoo! my first venture with javascript :lol:

downside is, that you will now need to allow an activeX control to run this part of my website. some people might not like that.

Chern

ActiveX for Javascript??? Doesn't seem right... mine uses bucketloads of Javascript and no ActiveX whatsoever.

sorry bud i don't really know that much about the workings of things PC. i do have some painted Narn ships though, i you want i'll get some pics for you? maybe need someone to photoshop them so they look like they are in space as oppossed to on my table.

I can photoshop some stuff, I have a "basic version" (ie, Photoshop elements) but more complex stuff is being handled by Darknight.

And as far as the javascript goes, I don't think its actually an activeX control, but its what my internet explorer said. Burger, I can send you the code and see what you think?

here's an example of some of my Narn, i intend on painting at least one of every ship in the Fleet. i have G'Quan, K'Toc, Sho'Kar and Frazi Flights done too. if you want these pics or need any of the other Narn ships let me know and i'll send you them asap.

Be very careful if you are truly leveraging ActiveX for a web page. Firefox as a whole does not and cannot support ActiveX. That's why it is marginally secure.

well according to my stats (for the Main_htm page)about 30% use some form of mozilla and the other 70% use some form of Internet explorer.

Burger, can you take a look at the link i gave previously and see if thats activeX?
