ACTA: B5 Hyach vs Narn Battle report

Da Boss

Mongoose
Sooo Greg and I returned to the space to fight once more - although this time using the Dilgar War (see link below) pack which we are looking to use as a basis for our next campaign. We selected 6 points Raid and our oft played "first one to die loses" scenario.

As usual we selected our fleet without knowing our opponent, I choose Hyach and Greg maintained his faith in the Narn Regime.

My fleet
1-2 Irokai Kam Heavy Cruiser (Painted by McKickaha, actually not the right model but its so lovely had to use it)
3 Alichi Kav Stealth Cruiser (Painted by McKickaha)
4 Senchlat Kes Combat Scout (Elutarian)
5 Senchlat Kes Combat Scout (White BFG Chaos escort)
6 Okath Kat Fast Frigate, (Painted by McKickaha) Okath Kur Escort Frigate (Maximus)

Greg
1-2 T’Voth Command Cruiser (Shadow T'Loth)
3 T’loth Assault Cruiser (Blue)
4 Thentus(*), Vor’kar Strike ship x2,
5 T’Rakk(*), Vor’Kar Strike Ship x2
6 Thentus(*), Vor’Kar Strike Ship x2

(* Chaos BFG ships - Greg accidently brought his Dwarves instead!!! )

Greg set up fairly central, with two flanking squadrons of 3 Vor'Kar patrol ships and enjoyed my issues with having to work out a way of trying to get a boresight with the hugely powerful spinal lasers!

What I should have done was sit back and wait for the Narn to come to me but I did what I always chide Ken fro doing when playing Minbari – I moved forward to engage. The Heavy Cruiser formed a central anchor with the combat scouts and escort frigate, whilst the stealth cruiser and fast frigate took up positions on either flank looking for a shot.

Greg advanced to meet me and was horrified when on turn 3, I got a firing solution on two of his ships with the spinal lasers of the heavy cruiser and the stealth cruiser and completely vaporised both targets! Truly they were living up to their reputation.

Greg, once he remembered they needed a turn to reload, surged forward and began pounding on the lead combat scout – quickly crippling the vessel but not killing it. The fast frigate exchanged shots with the vor’kars before they swept in to try and batter the heavy cruiser before it could fie its immense beam again.

Having advanced too far, I could do little more than watch the Narn cruisers power past the pride of my fleet, battering the vast ship and the escort frigate as they came. The combat scout limped on – still firing and causing damage – as it would do for many more turns – despite Greg’s best efforts!

The Stealth Cruiser – completely invisible to the Vor’kars that tried to target it slowly lumbered back toward the main conflict, reloading its fearsome laser. My Heavy Cruiser lost all power to engines and drifted helplessly as the Narn pounded it, damaging weapons and taking the vast central laser out of the game.

As the Narn circled, the wounded combat scout claimed its second victim and soldiered on. Whilst the Stealth cruiser crept ever closer – completely impervious to the Narn sensors. The second scout and the fast frigate engaged the remaining Vor’Kars and Thentus in a duel which with some very pleasing rolls went quickly the Hyach way.

Nearing its crippling threshold, the Hyach Heavy Cruiser opened a jump point in front of it – hoping it would survive long enough to drift through, whilst its escorts, many of them heavily damaged desperately tried to reduce the incoming fire from the two large Narn cruisers – which they succeeded in by causing power fluctuations on the commander cruiser.

The Heavy Cruiser drifted through to safety and the stealth cruiser reached firing range on the Command Cruiser unleashing another mighty blast from its spinal laser, sending the Command Cruiser adrift in turn!

The next few turns saw the remaining Hyach ships become the circling predators as they wore down the two remaining Narn Cruisers.

Great game – much fun and interesting to try out the ships in anger! Lots of things blew up and very different fleets.

The Hyach have low AD and slow loading spinal weapons but by god they proved effective – partially because on most of the occasion they rolled double their AD in hits – and with a triple damage weapon that’s going to hurt. On the other hand the precise minibeams were hit and miss and the scouting ability surprising ineffective given the number I had!

The Narn fleet was in the odd position of having few boresights and also loads of spare In sinks – at least to start with! I think the revised G’Quan might have been a good match for the heavy cruiser – especially as it would not have had any trouble lining up its own main beam!

As ever Stealth was a big deal with Greg only seeing the Stealth Cruiser once in the whole game – which was fortunate given its hull 4 with no defences! I was also relieved to see no emines in his fleet when he deployed !
