Aaaargh!

Last night I took down, off the shelf in my painting area, two fully complete, painted and gloss coated ready for decal applying Constitution class CA's - and dropped them.

2 CA's = 4 nacelles broken off + 2 Corsec mounts broke off = not happy

Repairs have been made but the joins are still lumpy and one nacelle is a bit off.

I haven't sprayed paint on a mini when I meant to be using dull coat in several years so this is my brain fart of the decade so far.

Aaargh again!!!

I have seen much much worse - ask Greg about his entire EarthForce fleet 20+ ships hitting the hard tile floor - now that was seriously painful to witness never mind happen !

Thanks for bringing up that painful memory. While you are at it, why not give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it.

What about that time you managed to flip a table at a tournament, with your fleet on it..?

I know how you feel. A model drops to the floor, you try to catch it with your foot, miss, and here the crunch. You close your eyes and whisper 'please God, make that not have happened...'

Could it have been some nice one piece Orions or a clutch of virtually unharmable F-5's? Nooo. It had to be two of only three ships on the painting shelf with vulnerable nacelles. I didn't just try and catch them with my foot, I smacked them into a hard surface just to make me a bigger goober.

Oh well, In the past I did once spray white primer on a newly painted BFG Retribution thinking I had dull coat in hand so ideally I've used my dumbass quota for the decade with this extravaganza.

Yeah. That wasn't my entire lovingly painted, modified with gun-barrels and antennae, transfers on every ship, with individually named stands, Earthforce fleet that was smashed into its component parts and with the paintwork chipped almost beyond repair.

Yep had a nice coat of grey on a fed i was painting, reach for the clear and grabbed black instead. So i now have a Kirov i dubbed the USS Black Widow. Even added a nice red hour glass on the saucer. Lemonade from lemons.

had that with one of my constitiution class ships, so many accidents, broken base (once) dropped/nacelles coming off for no reason, taking over an hour to build...
I've called it the U.S.S Dutchman, and it is rumored to be an unlucky ship...

I did that one time... and one time only.
Just finished a really nice looking Swooping Hawk exarch for WH40K and reached for the clear coat and grabbed the primer instead.

Now my clear coat sits in a location of its very own. No chance of confusing them again.

I must admit, I've never had the problem of confusing clear coat with undercoat. That said, I don't think I've ever finished painting a model

I recommend pinning. It is more up front work, but MAN does it pay off in spades!

I'm not sure I see pinning those nacelle arms as being terribly easy. Getting a pin vise to drill through that narrow a piece of metal is a bit beyond me.

I finally gave in and bought a good Dremel. Makes things much easier.

The hard part is always getting the initial 'tap' in the right position.
