A Universe Of Non-Swimmers ?

According to MGT, at TL 13 starships become able to operate under water.

And that's it. :(
Apart from the fact that I've always had issues with the idea of spacecraft which can also operate under water, this is something I hope High Guard will address. It's never been detailed in CT (I don't know about the other rulesets), so Mongoose will have to create some new rules in that area.

Listen, I'm homebrewing EVERYTHING- starship weapons, engines, p-plants, comp programs, charecteristics, skills, setting, normal weapons, etc...
And I dont stop and say, Hmph, traveller should already have this stuff cause I like it!
okay, I'm being incredibly unfair and mean  , but still.
I think that the lack of a swimming skill is actually a very funny overlook, but after all, these things are perfect excuses for more books... and more $...
Maybe athletics (endurance) to prevent drowning, and swimming for actually moving fast? The problem is, pretty much anybody from any planet with a drop of water on it has a good reason to have swimming 0, and no matter what other skills you have, swimming 2 should really only be a month or two of a learning period. Phelps has what, swimming 8?

I disagree. Swimming sedately along in a pool with your head out, chatting has at least a +6DM, so is easy unskilled. Lots of "swimmers" would be in trouble in anything other than millponds. Most swimmers are Athletics-0 people, either defaulting or because they have Athletics-0 from swimming.

There are lots of skills that aren't any harder to learn just because you've learnt lots of other things... that's just the generic simplified mechanic supplied with the game to attempt to balance out in-game training so that it doesn't lead to "silly" skill levels.

I reckon he's got a "knack" at swimming from a Life Event that no one else has. Plus END-F, and Athletics (swimming)-6

One thing I noticed is how the sciences skills seems to lack a lot of specalities. Trade also, there's plenty more trades then the ones they list. Art is the same way. I can think of a lot more art forms, both IRL ones and ones only found in the OTU that aren't listed as subskills under "Art" in the core book. Now, what does this tell me? If I want to have a Darrian take "Art (Flame Sculpting)" as a skill, even though that isn't listed in the core book, then well..I'll do it. Same thing with lets say Trade (Carpenter), assuming that one isn't listed. (I forget which ones are and aren't). And so forth.

My point with all of this? Simple, if I need or wish to take a swimming skill, even though they fail to list it, I'll mark "Athletics (Swimming)".

I think that sort of stuff is a given. What lacks is the differences in specialization and generalized topics. Is there a general "Art" skill? I generated a few entertainers that have specific musical instruments that they are proficient in.

What about someone like Leonardo dav Vinci, or Picasso? they did art in multiple disciplines. did they have one Art skill, or several sub skills (painter, potter, sculptor, etc.).

The more crazy "write-in" skills the better, I say. They add flavor to a character, and can be tailored to the prior history.

I suspect your question is rhetorical, but just to answer I'd say DaVinci to use one of your IRL examples would have skill in a few different art subskills along with the let's say TL 1 or 2 versions of a lot of science skills. Maybe even a point or two in one of the Trade skills thrown in for good measure.
