A quick question about SST Evo

Hi All,

I picked up a ton of SST figures a while back, and I'm just now beginning to find the time to assemble, paint and play the game.

What I am wondering is, will the scale of the figures be the same for the Evo prepainted models? I noticed that the Battlefield Evo figures are slightly smaller (20mm?) and I'm wondering if the SST figures will see a scale change?

Also, will the rules be very different? Or will this be mostly an army list modification?

The scale is to remain the same.

The rules will be different, but the stat mechanics stay the same. SST:Evo will use the BFEvo core rules, which were based on the SST rules, so there are changes, but no super fundamental shifts.

Just guessing, but there might be some licensing issues with the SST stuff that made BFE have to be a different scale. GW had this issue with LOTR so the LOTR figures are a different scale slightly than their other lines, e.g. WHFB and 40k. That is the only sane reason I can think of why BFE is the odd 1/65 scale. I use Corgi 1/64 models, which are by no means that easy to find. 1/72 would have been much better if they were going smaller. Of course painting little guys might be more expensive.

MGP has repeatedly told us all the stuff we have now is 100% compatible with SST Evo stuff. I wish I had some LAMI stats so I know where to put the comms, reporters and NCOs in an LAMI force ;)

Yay!!!! I was concerned about a possible shift in scale, but if everything will remain the same then I am thrilled!

I figure that by the time I manage to paint enough troops to play the game, the new rules may be out. I'm a meticulous painter (and skilled if I do say so myself), so I really want to take the time to make my models look spectacular... I've already started researching bug colours (and lobster colours as well!).

According to Mongoose, the BF evo minis are smaller due to packaging concerns for the tanks. also, the Evo rules are basically a new edition of SST, if you're used to the original rules the new ones will be easy to pick up

Or maybe they wanted to try out realistic 28mm models rather than oversized genetically engineered mutants

Since the 2 games are separate games it's not like there was definite need to have same size...

Beside "heroic" scale tanks would have been annoyingly big. Smaller model=same size of board is effectively bigger than with bigger models.

They are losing a hefty crossover market though.... SST and Gangs could have proxied with them, conversion opportunities would have been great.
As for the size of the tanks...... well 1/72 would have been a safer bet. Or 20mm, there's a lot of 20mm modern minis and scenery out there.

Yep. I've got 3 sets of GoMC:1 plus extra blisters, either 5 or 6 sets of SST plus many extra box sets and blisters. All can be used together or with a lot of other heroic proportioned 28mm figures I already owned.

God you're being so negative Tneva :D

By pointing out that some people might actually be bored of 32mm+ 28mm scale models with wacky proportions? As it is with the scale creep soon we have 40mm models in 28mm scale(actually I have seenl 28mm scale human model that's actually 36mm...).

It was breath of fresh air when Mongoose had the guts to do something as innovative as...Wait a second...Have 28mm models BE 28mm models and not trying to reach 40mm...

Personally, I was surprised when I first saw the models, but happy. I am one of those who is tired of unrealistic proportions. A lot of people on evocommand, for example, complained about the models and posted lots of links to alternatives. I didn't care for any of them. Especially when they costed almost as much per model and still had to be cleaned, prepped, based, painted, etc.

I had forgotten about the vehicles...

I like the BF Evo figures scale and the overall quality of the line... I was just worried that anyone that I draw into SST would be put out if the new figures they purchase were a different scale than the ones I was using...

"oh yea... I forgot to mention that all my bugs have a Kill stat one higher than yours because they are bigger"

Which is probably why they decided to keep the scale in SST same

Kinda easier to go for new scale with brand new game. With old game that's harder.

Then again. Doesn't stop certain companies*cough*games workshop*cough* from altering their scale in their game...

Thank god Mongoose is smart enough to not alienate old customers with stunt like that.
