A Question on Skill Points

I'm currently playing Conan using the 1E rules, and I noticed that there is an entry at the bottom of the skill list table stating that characters gain 2 points in all class skills at 1st level, and an additional 1/2 point per class skill per level thereafter. I was not able to find this written anywhere else in the rulebook, and I was wondering if this automatic skill point acquisition was the accurate rule. My players are hoping that it's correct, but I want to be sure before allowing it. Thanks for any input.

According to the FAQ/Errata published waaaaaay back in '04, the Class skill rule (2 pts + 1/2 each level) is only for single player campaign variant as presented in Signs and Portents #7.

Tell your players not to kill the messenger.

Excellent! Thanks for the clarification! And don't worry...My dog-brothers won't harm you for fear that I'll split their skulls!!!

As a tangent to Skill Points expendature, it's not made real clear in the 1e book, but Skill Points gained from INT are not subject to cross-class penalty. In other words, if you're a smart guy with a high INT then those points can be spent more freely, not counting 2 for 1 when buying cross-class Ranks.

What I did to make this easier to think about is have my players calculate INT based points separately from points gained merely by going up in level. This ends up being the 4 in the equation 4+(x2INT). Those four points are subject to cross-class penalty, wheras the x2INT amount of points are not.

A little complicated, but it makes very smart characters more versitile.
